Over the last 25 years, British society has changed a great deal. In some ways, however, very little has changed. Ideas about social class whether a person is “working-class” or “middle-class” are one area in which changes have been extremely slow.
In the past, the working-class tended to be paid less than middle-class people, such as teachers and doctors. As a result of this and also of the fact that workers’ jobs were generally much less cure, distinct differences in life-styles and attitudes came into existence. The typical working man would collect his wages on Friday evening and then give them to his wife, leaving a little for drinking or betting.
The type of what a middle-class man did with his money was perhaps nearer the truth. He was and still is likely to take a longer-term view. Not only did he regard buying a hou to provide him and his family with curity. Only in very few cas did workers have the opportunity (or the education and training) to make such long-term plans.
Nowadays, much has changed. In a large number of cas factory workers earn as much. Social curity and laws have made it less necessary than before to worry about “tomorrow”. Working-class people em slowly to be losing the feeling of inferiority (自卑感) they had in the past. In fact there has been a growing tendency in the past few years for the middle-class to feel slightly ashamed of their position.
The changes in both life-styles and attitudes are probably most easily en among younger people. They generally tend to share very similar tastes in music and clothes. They spend their money enjoying themlves, and save for holidays or longer-term plans when necessary. There ems to be much less difference than in previous generations. Nevertheless, we still have a wide gap between the well-paid and the low-paid. As long as this gap exists, there will always be a possibility that new problems will appear between different groups.

Dog lovers are well aware of the ability of a dog to communicate with its eyes. Now, scientific rearch suggests this ability developed over time as dogs learned to live with humans.
Dogs are known in many cultures as ”man’s best friend“, and the eyes can be one of the loveliest things about the animals. But a new study found that dog’s face developed to prent ”puppy dog eyes“ as a way to help connect with humans. The study compared the face of dogs and wolves (狼), which share family history. Dogs broke off from wolves after being kept by and living with humans about 33,000 years ago. During that time, dogs changed both in their bodies and actions to fit life with humans.
The rearchers checked the heads of six dogs and two wolves for comparison. They found the facial parts of both animals were mostly very similar. But one important difference was found above the eyes.
The dogs were found to have two well-formed muscles (肌肉) around the eyes that were not prented in the wolves. The small muscles allow dogs to rai their inner eyebrows(眉毛) obviously, the study found.
Anne Burrows, a lead rearcher on the-study, said ”You don’t typically e such muscle differences in species that are so cloly connected“. The team suggests this eyebrow-raising action caus ”a caring“ feeling in humans becau it makes the dogs’ eyes appear larger.
This expression also makes the dog look more like a human baby. The eye expression is similar to which humans make when they are sad, the statement said. The rearchers suggest that the expression developed over time as a way for dogs to get humans to do things for them. This could include humans giving them food, care or attention. The rearchers called the findings ”significant“ for showing that the muscles are likely developed to help in their interactions with people.
