At least one receiving element is movably supported to pivot or rotate. The receiving member in the open state forms a stop 5a, 14a to prevent the cable becoming trapped between the jaws at the housing end. Alternatively, or in addition, the receiving elements 4a, 4b may have shoulders 6a, 6b which are wider than the maximum width of the opening (B2, figure 1). The current clamp is therefore narrow and able to access confined spaces such as switching cabinets.
