荷兰豆炒腊肉玉兰花图When I started working in London four years ago, I repeatedly made a big mistake: Whenever a colleague offered me a cup of tea, I’d politely refu. To me, a cup of hot tea with milk tasted okay, but it was more the kind of thing you u to go with something actu
ally delicious, like cakes. Also, as an American, I just guesd the offer was made out of politeness, not sincerity.
I soon learned that, in Britain, refusing a cup of tea is like refusing a gesture of friendship.
I’d always considered tea as a simple drink. The British, of cour, could not disagree more. “How do you take your tea?” is perhaps the most loaded question in the British language. Making a cup of tea for someone can be a way of saying, “I care about you.” If you’ve had an argument with a roommate, offer to make him a cup of tea—if he accepts, everything is okay now. This is also a great way to apologize without directly addressing the issue, which is the most British thing you could be doing anyway.
For many Brits, it ems tea wraps them in the memories of childhood and home, and a cup of coffee or a hot chocolate is just not the same. A cup of tea is like a warm hug. If a friend has broken up with his girlfriend, lost his job, failed his driving test, or simply wants to chat about his day, it’s time to “put the kettle on”. The world’s problems can be solved over a cup of tea.
顾恺之简介After a few years here, I’ve even discovered my own tea preference, which you’re welcome to borrow: Stew(煮)for one minute, add a little milk, and drink with a generous slice of cake—then escape the world for ten minutes.

金鹰节直播The 2026 World Cup will have three host countries.
The United States, Canada and Mexico have en off the challenge of Morocco for the right to stage the world’s most important tournament(锦标赛).
The final vote for this result took place in Moscow, where, just one day later, the 2018 World Cup kicked off. In the total 200 votes, 134 lected the “United Bid(联合竞标)”, 65 went to Morocco, and one to Iran.
The North African country Morocco has now bid for the World Cup five times, but lost out on all five occasions. To win the vote, Morocco stresd that weapons were banned in their country, and the stadiums would be far clor together than they will be in North America. They planned to stage games in 14 stadiums—9 of which need to be built—located in 12 cities.
Quite differently, the three countries of the “United Bid” are not new to the World Cup: The US (in 1994) and Mexico (in 1970 and 1986) have hosted the World Cup before, while Canada hosted the Women’s World Cup in 2015. All of their 16 stadiums that the 2026 World Cup will u are already in place. The “United Bid” countries wanted to convince that a World Cup will be less than a headache to organize.
There may be some lengthy traveling the football teams will have to deal with, as the distance between the most northern stadium (in Edmonton, Canada) and the most southern (in Mexico City, Mexico) is almost 3,000 miles. That compares to 1,900 miles in Russia (from Kaliningrad to Ekaterinburg) this summer.
2026 will mark the biggest World Cup in history: the first running of 48 teams and 80 matches, comparing to 32 teams and 64 matches in Russia this year.

Six months ago, I found mylf drowning in a flood of easy information. The Internet provides unlimited information at the touch of a finger. However, it is not always delightful. I was distracted when at work or with family and friends, constantly feeling tired and annoyed. I had always loved books, but I couldn’t read any. I tried, but every time, by ntence three or four, I was either checking e-mail or asleep. I started to wonder: could reading books again help me out of the digital(数字的) information stress? Could the slower form of information delivery—books—be my cure?
