摘要：A wavelength tunable lar (100a) comprising a lar diode (110) and one or more optical resonators (122) coupled to adjacent waveguides (124, 126). The optical resonator (122) primarily functions as a wavelength lector. Emissions from the lar diode (110) coupled into the first waveguide 124 and transferred to the cond waveguide (126) through evanescent coupling between the waveguides (124, 126) and optical resonator (122), are reflected backwards into the system by a mirror (150) or high reflection coating at the end of the cond waveguide (126). Lasing is achieved when the optical gain overcomes optical loss for a certain resonance wavelength which is tunable by changing the resonance condition of the optical resonator (122). Multiple optical resonators may be ud to reduce the lasing threshold and provide higher power output. With monolithic integration, more optical devices can be integrated with the tunable lar into the same substrate to produce optical devices that are capable of more complex functions.underpin
