今天绘本的题⽬是：“Highland Games” 苏格兰⾼地运动会
Highland 是 “⾼地” 的意思
Games 是 “游戏”
⽽ Highland Games 特指 “苏格兰⾼地运动会”。
Highland Games is a Scottish event with traditional sports, dancing and music.
你知道苏格兰在哪⾥吗？
娜塔莉来简单科普⼀下吧。我们所熟悉的英国，它的全称是：⼤不列颠及北爱尔兰联合王国 The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland。英国，是由⼤不列颠岛上的英格兰、威尔⼠和苏格兰以及爱尔兰岛东北部的北爱尔兰以及⼀系列附属岛屿共同组成的⼀个西欧岛国。⼀起来看下英国地图，对于苏格兰的地理位置，更有感觉了吧：
还记得亚瑟王吗？那个拔剑称王，拥有圆桌骑⼠的，就是他，传说中的亚瑟王，就是古不列颠岛的统治者。到现在为⽌，亚瑟王也是英国⼈⾮常津津乐道的⼀个传奇⼈物。

苏格兰裙的历史
在英语中，苏格兰短裙被称为 “KILT”，这可是地道的苏格兰语，意为：折起来包裹⾝体的⾐服。/ 早在16世纪（16世纪就是16⼏⼏年，现在是20世纪，20⼏⼏年）。早在16世纪，它是苏格兰⾼地⼈的服装。起初它是⼀块没有经过裁剪的布料，折叠裹在⾝上，腰间⽤⽪带固定。/ 这种装束⾮常适合⾼地的⽓候和地形。⽐裤⼦舒服，⾏动⾃如，上半⾝可以做⽃篷御寒，打开腰带就是毯⼦。/ 19世纪以后，这种⾼地⼈的传统服饰，也逐渐被低地⼈接受，成为苏格兰民族特⾊的标志。
** 全套苏格兰裙其实很贵
⼀套完整的 kilt 并不是只有格⼦裙。全套的 kilt 需要⼀条及膝的⽅格呢裙，⾊调搭配的背⼼，⼀件花呢夹克，⼀双长筒针织袜，⽤来固定的宽腰⽪带（还要悬挂个⼤包），肩上要斜披条花呢毯。
好了，让我们继续回到绘本吧。
看着爸爸的这⾝打扮，毫⽆疑问，这次他们⼀家⼀定是去苏格兰玩了。

The Robinson family went on holiday to Scotland.
Robinson ⼀家⼈去苏格兰度假。
这⾥的 the Robinson family 就是指 Kipper ⼀家⼈。Robinson 是他们的 last name（或者被称为 family name，家族的名字），就像是我们中国⼈，姓名的 “姓”。那 “名” 是什么呢？名，是 first name（或者被称为 Given name，被给与的名字）。
警察的英语怎么说
举个例⼦：
Kipper，Kipper Robinson
Biff，Biff Robinson
美国总统特朗普，Donald Trump
通常不熟悉的⼈⽤姓来称呼，黄⼩姐，张⼥⼠，王先⽣等等，英语中也是这样，Miss Robinson，Mr Trump，⽽熟⼈间，是⽤名来称呼的，⽐如说 Kipper Biff Chip 这个样⼦。
娜塔莉有没有把这个姓名讲明⽩？

The mountains 这⼭似乎怎么样？
这⼭似乎 go on forever 永远地继续着（绵延不绝）
英国朴茨茅斯大学go on 是 “继续” 的意思。继续做某件事情，或者，这件事做完了，继续做另⼀件事，都可以⽤ go on，这个词在之后的绘本中，会经常出现的。
⽐如说：
数独的方法技巧与规律Go on, I'm interested. 继续，我很感兴趣呐。
这⾥的 forever 是 “永远” 的意思，a very very long time
⽐如说：
Mum，I love you forever.

part 是 “部分”
备的组词⽽ fantastic means excellent，extremely good，very very good
“苏格兰的这块地⽅真是⼈间仙境。”
Kipper drew a picture of the mountains.
Kipper 画了⼀幅⼭的画，
Biff took a photo,
Biff 拍了照⽚。
draw a picture 是 “画画”
⽽ take a picture 或者 take a photo 是 “拍照” 的意思
Dad and Mum sat on a rug.
They took a drink and had a rest.

What's the meaning of sign?
sign means a piece of paper, wood or metal that has writing or a picture on it that gives you information, instructions, a warning, etc.
在这⾥ sign 呢，就是⼀张纸、或者⼀个⽊牌或⾦属牌，上⾯写着字，或者画着图⽚，它会告诉你⼀些信息，指令，或者警告等等。sign，就是 “告⽰牌” 的意思。
“It says 'Highland Games'."
那块 sign 告⽰牌，“上⾯写着：苏格兰⾼地运动会”。

A band of pipers was playing.
piper 就是 “风笛演奏家”
他们看到，演奏风笛的乐队在表演。
"They are playing bagpipes,"said Chip.
“他们演奏的是风笛。” Chip 说。
bagpipes 就是 “风笛”，是苏格兰的传统乐器，如下图："What a fantastic sound,"said Biff.
“好动听的声⾳啊。” Biff 说，
fantastic ⼜来了，
That means good，very very good，extremely good，excellent "What a fantastic sound,"said Biff.
“And they are wearing kilts."

瞧远处，⼈群聚集的地⽅，就是运动会，⽐赛的地⽅了。

The hammer looked very heavy.
To throw it is a very hard work even to the strong men.
He was sweating.

“Wow,"said Biff.
“哇塞!" Biff 说，
“What a throw! I bet you can't do that, Dad."
I bet 我打赌，我敢肯定。
“扔得好远啊! 我打赌你肯定不⾏，爸爸。”
What don't the children think Dad can do? And why?

The children don't think Dad can throw the hammer. Becau it was so heavy.
And Dad was not strong enough.
