z Lesson 1: Importing CDL Netlist
Laker provides an open system that can import various types of design databa, such as GDSII, ASCII, LEF, DEF and CDL netlist. In this lesson, we will import
a CDL netlist and construct the design bad on its connectivity information.
To import a CDL Netlist,
1. Select File -> Import -> to bring up the CDL In form.
2. In the CDL In form, indicate your design file by type ./demo.cir in the Design File box.
3. Assign the technology file by type demo.tf in the Technology File box.
4. Type demo_try in the Library Name box.
5. Type ./demo.map in the Model Map Table box.
6. When the assignments are done, click OK to import the design.
NOTE: The summary of CDLIn conversion will be displayed in the message window under Laker main window; and the detailed information is recorded in the

z Lesson 2: Opening Cell with Design Browr and Schematic Window
Opening a Cell
Next, we are going to open one of the schematic cells, top, from the demo library. Notice that the cells translated from CDL netlist containing schematic view only, when you open such kind of cell in the design window, Laker will estimate a cell boundary (soft instance) and create a layout view for the cell.
When the CDL In process is done, open a cell as follows:
1. Click on the Open Cell button to bring up the Open Cell form.

3. Select top from the cell list.

4. Click OK to open the cell in the design window.
In Laker design window. You can find three sub windows. There are Design Browr, Schematic Generator, and Layout window.
You can u the Design Browr to rearrange the design hierarchy for layout optimization. The built-in schematic generator generates the schematic drawing from the connectivity information and allows layout designers to easily brow the design. The layout window provides the automatic editing commands with controllable constraints to construct the layout and maintain the handcrafted quality.
Hierarchy Optimization in design browr
You can rearrange hierarchy of schematic in design browr by “Make node” & “Flatten” command.
Make Node
Change the schematic design hierarchy to group some objects to a new instance. This command functions only under Object tab.
Flatten
Change the schematic design hierarchy and flatten instances to a specified level. This command functions only under Object tab.
Example
1. Multi. lecting the instances then click-right button to do “Make Node” into TRY instance. (e figure)
2. The TRY instance return to original hierarchy in rever procedures by flatten in design browr. Detail procedures refer to the figures as below.
