In 1990, fewer than 40% of Americans lived in urban areas. Today, over 82% of Americans live in cities. Only about 2% live on farms. The rest live in small towns .Large cities were impossible until agriculture became industrialized. Even in advanced agricultural societies, it took about ninety-five people on farms to feed five people in cities.      (3)      Until modern times, tho living in cities were mainly the ruling elite (精英) and the rvants, laborers and professionals who rved them. Cities survived by taxing farmers and were limited in size by the amount of surplus food that the rural population produced and by the ability to move this surplus from farm to city. Over th
e past two centuries, the Industrial Revolution has broken this balance between the city and the country.   (4)    Today, instead of needing ninety-five farmers to feed five city people, one American farmer is able to feed more than a hundred non-farmers.

But they reacted less strongly when they knew that they would be faced with a word task. However, scientists saw no strong brain respon from people in the cond group .Math can be difficult, and for tho with high levels of mathematics-anxiety (HMA), math is associated with tension, apprehension and fear. “When you are really thinking about the math problems, your mind is racing and you are worrying about all the things that could go wrong,” explained Ian Lyons from University of Chicago, leader of the study.      “(3)    More interestingly, the brain activity disappeared when participants actually started dealing with the math tasks.     “(4)    Lyons said. Bad on the study, scientists suggested that things could be done to help students worry less and move past their fear of math, which might mean they perform better in tests.

You’re looking at it and it feels like someone’s over your shoulder talking in your ear, as oppod to someone at the blackboard, which is distant from you,” he said. When Springfield High School in Palo Alto, California, invited Khan to speak in person—he immediately connected to the students there.      (3)      One student says she had trouble with math in the venth grade. “I think the teachers are good, but they can’t teach at a speed that’s perfect for everyone,” she said. “I like the idea of learning something in class but then going back and pressing pau or rewind and actually getting a deeper understanding of it.”      (4)      Now, he thinks short is better. “Ed
