When we talk about the communication and nonverbal communication, a lot of conceptual issues are involved. In this chapter, I will explain what’s meaning of the two terms.
2.1. Communication
What is communication? Some people say that communication is information exchange, where there is information, there is communication. That is to say, communication is nding and receiving the message, one nding the message and other one receiving it.
There are two main kinds of communication: humanity communication and non-humanity communication. What we usually referred is humanity communication. Humanity communications include social communication and non-social communication (intrapersonal communication).
Social communications are interpersonal communication, organization communication and mass communication.
2.2. Nonverbal communication
What is nonverbal communication? Nonverbal communication include the u of time and space, body language which consist of eye contact, hand signal, gesture, smile, facial expression, cloth, silence, body contact, body distance, etc, and paralanguage which consist of timbre, amplitude, volume, speed and some nonverbal sound during conversion.
But what’s the deference between verbal communication and nonverbal communication?
Firstly, nonverbal communication is more equivocal than verbal communication. It is becau that nonverbal communication is always conscious and unconscious at same time. Secondly, verbal communication is sustained but nonverbal communication is not. Verbal communication will stop will people stop talking but nonverbal communication will not stop if there is still someone around you even if he does not talk to you. Thirdly, nonverbal communication is many sided. It can be touched, saw, smelled, felt and so on at same time. Fourthly, when there is contradiction between them, the nonverbal communication is always considered as truth.
