Who completes this form?
You should complete this application form if you intend to remain in Australia no longer than 72 hours and if you can establish that the principal purpo in entering Australia is:•to pass through Australia in transit to another country (where a ‘stopover’ is intended, you should apply for the appropriate visa in a visitor class instead); or •to pass through Australia to join a vesl as a crew member.Children included in a parent’s passport need not complete a parate application form. Details of such children can be
included on their parent’s/guardian’s application form. Children not included in a parent’s or guardian’s passport must  fill in a parate application.
Plea answer all questions fully and correctly. An incorrect answer, or failure to provide an answer to
any question, will be taken into account when your application is being considered and could lead to the refusal of your application.
T ravel agents may complete this form for you but you must sign the declaration.

Integrity of application
The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (the
department) is committed to maintaining the integrity of the visa and citizenship programs. Plea be aware that if you
provide us with fraudulent documents or claims, this may result in processing delays and possibly your application being refud.
What is needed with the application?
Persons other than the crew joining a vesl You must enclo with your application:
a passport valid for travel to Australia issued to, or including, each person in the application;
a recent passport-type photograph of each person included in the application form (the photograph must be signed on the back by the person to whom it refers);an itinerary;
evidence of confirmed onward booking to continue your journey from Australia to a third country within 72 hours of arrival; and/or
correct documentation (eg. visa) for entry to that third country .
Persons joining as crew of a vesl
From 1 July 2007, foreign members of crew employed on foreign non-military ships which are in Australia during an international voyage are required to hold an Australian
maritime crew visa. A maritime crew visa may only be applied for while the applicant is outside Australia. A maritime crew visa is valid for multiple entries to Australia for 3 years from the date it is granted and only permits travel to Australia by a. Crew who need to travel to Australia by air to join a ship may apply for a transit visa to travel to Australia but applicants will be checked by immigration officials to ascertain if they hold a maritime crew visa. If you do not hold a maritime crew visa after 1
July 2007 when you apply for a transit visa, you may be refud a transit visa to travel to Australia.
Your application should be accompanied by:•a passport; and
•documentary proof that you are employed on, or are to be employed on, the ship you are joining in Australia.The following details are to be supplied by the local shipping/handling agent:
•the names of the person joining the vesl as crew;•the names of the persons they are replacing;
•the name of the company employing the applicant;•the name of the vesl being joined;
•the date of arrival in Australia of the persons to be visaed;•the port and date they are expected to join the vesl;•if they are not the vesl’s owner, a copy of the request for crew from the vesl’s agent in Australia. The request should contain the details of the crew members applying for visas.Your transit visa, if granted will permit you to travel to Australia by air for single entry only. Your maritime crew visa will allow you a period of 5 days to sign onto your vesl after you arrive in Australia. If you fail to sign onto your vesl in that time, your maritime crew visa will cea and you may be liable to removal from Australia.

How you lodge the application
Your completed application accompanied by the passport and photograph may be lodged by you or by your reprentative or nt by mail. If the passport is to be returned by mail you must provide an addresd passport-size envelope and sufficient postage.
Residential address
You must provide the address where you and any children included on this application form intend to live while your application is being dealt with. Failure to give your residential address in this application will result in this application being invalid. A post office box address will not be accepted as your residential address.
Documents required on arrival
•Passport with a valid visa for travel to Australia and if crew joining a vesl, another document that identifies the holder as a afarer.
•Return or onward ticket or other documentation for travel and entry to a destination beyond Australia.
•Completed incoming pasnger card (will be available on ship/aircraft prior to arrival).
Period of stay in Australia
Your stay in Australia must be for no longer than 72 hours. Extensions of stay will not be granted.
Transit visa conditions
T ransit visas have the following conditions attached to them. If you do not comply with the conditions, your visa may be cancelled and you will become an unlawful non-citizen.
You must not:
•work in Australia; or
•undertake formal studies or training in Australia
Options for receiving written communications
You may authori another person to receive all communications, both written and electronic, about your application with the department. You will be taken to have received any documents nt to that person as if they had been nt to you.
T o do this you will need to complete Part C Options for receiving written communications and form 956 Appointment of a migration agent or exempt agent or other authorid recipient. For an explanation of what a migration agent or exempt agent or authorid recipient can do plea read the ctions below.
T o change or end the appointment of your migration agent or exempt agent or authorid recipient you must promptly advi the department in writing. You can do this by using form 956 Appointment of a migration agent or exempt agent or other authorid recipient.Authorid recipient information
An authorid recipient is someone you appoint to receive written communications about your application with the department.
All written communication about your application will be nt to your authorid recipient, unless you indicate that you wish to have health and/or character information nt directly to you.
The department will communicate with the most recently appointed authorid recipient as you may only appoint one authorid recipient at any time for a particular application. Migration agent information
A migration agent is someone who can:
•advi you on the visa that may best suit you;
•tell you the documents you need to submit with your application;
•help you fill in the application and submit it; and •communicate with the department on your behalf.
If you appoint a migration agent, the department will assume that your migration agent will be your authorid recipient, unless you indicate otherwi.
Your migration agent will be the person with whom the department will discuss your application and from whom it will ek further information when required.
You are not required to u a migration agent. However, if you u a migration agent, the department encourages you to u a registered migration agent. Registered agents are bound by the Migration Agents Code of Conduct, which requires them to act professionally in their clients’ lawful best interests. Immigration assistance
A person gives immigration assistance to you if he or she us, or claims to u, his or her knowledge or experience in migration procedure to assist you with your visa application, request for ministerial intervention, cancellation review application, sponsorship or nomination.
In Australia a person may only lawfully give immigration assistance if he or she is a registered migration agent or is exempt from being registered. Only registered migration agents may receive a fee or reward for providing immigration assistance.
If an unregistered person in Australia, who is not exempt from registration, gives you immigration assistance they are committing a criminal offence and may be procuted. Migration agents in Australia
Migration agents in Australia must be registered with the Migration Agents Registration Authority (MARA) unless they are exempt from registration.
Migration agents outside Australia
Migration agents who operate outside Australia do not have to be registered. The department may give some overas agents an ID number. This number does not mean that they are registered.

About the information you give
The department is authorid to collect information provided on this form under Part 2 of the Migration Act 1958 ‘Control of Arrival and Prence of Non-Citizens’. The information provided will be ud for asssing your eligibility for a visa to travel to, enter and/or remain in Australia and for other purpos relating to the administration of the Migration Act.
The information provided might also be disclod to agencies who are authorid to receive information relating to adoption, border control, business skills, citizenship, education, health asssment, health insurance, health rvices, law enforcement, pensions and benefits, refugee rvices, taxation, superannuation, review of decisions and registration of migration agents. state and territory police to assist in your location and possible detention in the event that you become an unlawful non-citizen. The department is involved in international information exchanges with a number of other countries. The exchanges include the sharing of personal identifiers, including a facial image and fingerprint data collected by immigration agencies such as this department. If, as a result of this sharing between countries, there is a match with your personal identifiers, the department will disclo your biographic data and immigration history to the other agency. The purpo of such disclosure would be to determine if you are prenting to the department and the other agency under the same identity and making similar claims.
