Two recent studies have found that punishment is not the best way to influence behavior.
彩铅人物One showed that实习日志 adults are much more cooperative if they work in a system bad on rewards. Rearchers at Harvard University in the United States and the Stockholm School of Economics in Sweden did the study.
They had about two hundred college students play a version of the game known as the Prisoner’s Dilemma. The game is bad on the tension (紧张气氛) between the interests (利益) of an individual and a group. The students played in groups of four. Each player could win points for the group, so they would all gain equally. But each player could also reward or punish each of the other three players, at a cost to the punisher.
Harvard rearcher David Rand says the most successful behavior proved to be cooperation. The groups that rewarded it the most earned about twice as much in the game as the groups that rewarded it the least. And the more a group punished itlf, the lower its earnings were. The group with the most punishment earned twenty-five percent less than the group with the least punishment. The study appeared last month in the journal Science.
The other study involved children. It was prented last month in California at a conference on violence and abu. Rearchers ud intelligence tests given to two groups. More than eight hundred children aged two to four the first time they were tested. More than ven hundred children aged five to nine.
The two groups were retested four years later, and the study compared the results with the first test. Both groups contained children who parents ud physical punishment and children who parents did not. The study says the IQs--or intelligence quotients--of the younger children who were not spanked were five points higher than tho who were. In the older group, the difference was almost three points.
Murray Strauss from the University of New Hampshire worked with Mallie Paschall from the Pacific Institute for Rearch and Evaluation. Professor Strauss has written extensively about physical punishment of children. He says the more they are spanked, the slower their mental development. He also looked at average IQs in other nations and found them lower where spanking was more common.

A项太片面;文章没有提到最好的方法,排除B;D项不够具体;根据第二段“One showed that adults are much more cooperative if they work in a system bad on rewards.”和第六段“of the younger children who were not spanked were five points higher than tho who were”可知,研究表明,奖励能够促进合作,惩罚不利于孩子
的心智发展,故选C。
2.猜测词义题。根据带第六段“who were not spanked were five points higher than tho who were”可知,被父母体罚的孩子,他们的智商比没有受到体罚的孩子的低5分,根据最后一段“He says the more they are spanked, the slower their mental development.”可知,孩子受到的惩罚越多,他们的心智发展得越慢,说明划线词是“惩罚”的意思,故选B。
3.推理判断题。B、D两项文中未提及;根据倒数第二段“of the younger children who were not spanked were five points higher than tho who were”和最后一段“the more they are spanked, the slower their mental development”可知,惩罚不利于孩子的身心发展,排除C;根据第二段“adults are much more cooperative if they work in a system bad on rewards”和第六段“five points higher than tho who were”可知,奖励能够促进合作,而惩罚不利于孩子心智的发展,只有A项与奖励有关,故选A。

Blind imitation (模仿)is lf-destruction.To tho who do not recognize their unique worth. Imitation appears attractive: to tho who know their strenghth. Imitation is unacceptable.
In the early stages of skill or character development, imitation is helpful. When I first learned to cook, I ud recipes (菜谱) and turned out some tasty dishes. But soon I grew bored. Why follow someone els way of cooking when I could create my own? Imitating role models is like using training wheels on a childs bicycle; they help you get going, but once you find your own balance, you fly faster and farther without relying on them.
In daily life, imitation can hurt us if we subconsciously (下意识地) hold poor role models. If, as a child, you obrved people who lives were bad, you may have accepted their fear and pain as normal and gone on to follow what they did. If you do not make strong choices for yourlf, you will get the results of the weak choices of others.英文格式
In the field of entertainment, our culture glorifies celebrities. Tho stars look great on screen. But when they step off screen, their personal lives may be disastrous. If you are going to follow someone, focus on their talent, not their bad character or unacceptable behaviors.

ink of the movies, books, teachers, and friends that have affected you most deeply. They touched you becau their creations were motivated by inspiration, not desperation. The world is changed not by tho who do what has been done brfore them, but by tho who do what has been done inside them.Creative people have an endless resource of ideas. The problem a creator faces  is  not running out of material;it is what to do with the material knocking at the door of imagination.
