One Sunday last year, eight of us hiked for a couple of hours through the dert near San Diego to reach Thunder_Canyou_Cave. We had to go through a waterfall to get inside, so we put on our wetsuits and lowered ourlves 30ft down. By 11:00 am we were inside. After we climbed further, we reached a nineinch crack (裂缝). Having moved for four hours, I was tired and wet.
The group leader, Luca,_was guiding three cavers. One of them, Steve, in his 50s, got stuck in the crack. There was 10 minutes of pulling and pushing until Steve was free. He was tired and needed to leave. Luca, assuming I'd been through the crack before, guided Steve through the cave for another 15 minutes to an exit. I was cond from last to go through. I didn't realize that Luca wasn't there—if I'd known, I wouldn't have attempted the crack, as I needed an experienced guide.
The challenge is to put your feet first down the length of the crack, and then move your body sideways to swing along, before dropping five feet to the floor of the next space. On my first attempt, I knew I wo
uldn't make_it through, but the group encouraged me to try again. I didn't want to inconvenience anyone by having to make the long trip back through the cave, so I backed out and took off my wetsuit. In just my Tshirt, I tried to slide through again but my hips (屁股)were trapped. My feet were hanging on the other side and my left arm supported my body. My hand rested on a wooden board that had been left covering rocks to protect cavers from slipping. Luca returned and the team tried everything to help me as I mentally focud on escape.
After two hours my arm weakened, so I slid further into the crack, where the gap was only eight and a half inches wide. My body weight was on my left elbow (肘), my back and chest touching the cold stone walls. The guy behind me, Jim,_tried unsuccessfully to pull me back. Of cour, I was blocking his escape, too.黄晓明歌曲

When I started my current project,_I woke up every day with new ideas and fresh enthusiasm.
I really believed the importance of what I wanted to create, and I had my husband, Claudio,_cheer me on. But then, things got hard. I injured my shoulder and my recovery was slow. In the middle of it, I lost Claudio to cancer. Then I was discouraged, lonely, and without Claudio's support. Facing down the halffinished quilt in my wing room one morning soon after his death, I could hardly gather the energy to w it.
The quilt was meant to be a way to keep my old nursing class together. We'd graduated from Mercy College of Ohio over 40 years before and quickly worked all over the country. I always tried to find ways to connect everyone together, but nothing ever emed to work out. I knew I needed to find a connection to share at a distance. I thought about a quilt.
I got in touch with as many of my old classmates as I could. Everyone who wanted to join the project was nt a piece of fabric (织物). They could sign it or write a personal message. Once I got the pieces back, I'd w them on the finished piece.
I rubbed my painful shoulder and ran my hand over the unfinished quilt. There was still so much to do. Our class's fortyfifth anniversary party was coming up, but my heart wasn't in this project anymore. With Claudio's encouragement I'd kept at it despite my painful shoulder. But Claudio was gone. Working on the quilt was impossible with my aches and pains. Why was I even trying? I covered up my wing_machine and left the quilt as it was.

Paragraph 1:
Weeks pasd but I didn't w a thing. I thought of it one afternoon when I went into my wing room to dust. Quilting pieces covered the table. They were filled with colorful messages from my old classmates. I picked one up:“Mercy sisters—friends forever!”The handwriting was messy, but the statement was true. I could almost imagine my old friends right beside me, whispering words of encouragement and love. Maybe I was not as alone as I thought. Suddenly my project no longer felt so frightening. No time to waste. I uncovered my wing_machine and got to work.
Paragraph 2:
I arri v ed at our fortyfifth anni v ersary party equipped w ith pictures of the finished quilt. The ladies cheered as the photos went from hand to hand. I couldn't wait for them to hold the real thing, for them to be covered in the comfort of old friends, just like I had been when I needed it most. No matter how much the distance was, whether it was from heaven or Earth across the country, Claudio and my friends would always be there for me in spirit.

On Wednesday night, it was the closing time of the mall. But there was an hour's work, at least, to get everything cleaned up. It would be 11:00 pm before I finally got home. I hadn't even had time to have dinner. I was starving. My feet ached. My whole body was filled with tiredness. I couldn't wait to go to bed. But it would be only 6 hours before the alarm went off at 5:00 am for my day job.
Things had been tight for over a year now. My husband Paul's business had taken a huge hit. I have a fulltime job at a day care center and somehow do my homework for my college class too. Then I had to work nights at the mall. Without me taking my cond job, there wouldn't be enough money to pay the bills. Let alone buy any Christmas prents for our 15yearold daughter, Marie. No one wanted to wake up on Christmas morning to an empty tree.
I barely even saw Paul and Marie anymore. Marie was growing up, but a teenage girl still needs her mom. I worried about her, about us. Was she eating enough? Keeping up with her schoolwork? I wasn't afraid of sacrifices. Everyone was having to work hard for the family. I knew I was blesd to have two jobs, when millions of people couldn't find one.
How I hoped to quit my job at the day care center and obtain a fulltime degree. I'd dropped down to one class a term. If I quit that, there was no way I'd find the willpower to try again.
Besides, wasn't I always telling Marie to keep hoping and never give up?
My mind went back to the conversation I'd had with Marie earlier. Paul had dropped her off at the mall, where she was getting picked up for a babysitting job.“Remember we're going Christmas shopping this night,”she said.“Now I'll even have my own money. See you later.”
The floor was nearly done. The boss asked me to leave.

答案
Paragraph 1:
I opened the back door of the mall and sa w Marie outside w ith a bag of food, smiling. She finished her job an hour before. She figured I didn't have time for dinner, so she bought me a bag of food with her own money earned by babysitting and waited for me outside the mall all the time. While I was eating, she told me that I was her hero and she admired everything I was doing for the family. When she was babysitting long hours or when she was tired of doing homework, she thought about my hard work. She remembered to have hope for life and never give up.
Paragraph 2:
I pulled her tight against me.Tomorrow the alarm would still ring at 5:00 am. The bills would still be waiting. There would be more rough days ahead. And yet I was ready to face them together with Paul and Marie, all of us willing to work hard and make sacrifices and hold on to each other. Things would get better with the love of a good family.
