The Antecedent rves as…
• In the attributive clau, the antecedent plays a role of components such as subject, object and adverbial; Yet in the appositive clau, it acts as a link and it isn’t a components.
E.g.
温柔体贴 1. A plane is a machine that can fly怎么说早安最撩人. 飞机是一种能飞的机器。
(Attributive clau) The antecedent that acts as the object of subordinate clau.

2.The fact that they didn't finish the work田园生活的诗句 has to be faced. 必须面对事实,他们没有完成工作。
(Appositive clau) The word that acts as a conjunction which explains the details of fact.
Whether could the antecedent be omitted?
• When the conjunctive word (关联词) that guide the attributive clau plays a role of object or adverbial, it can be omitted or replaced; while the antecedent of appositive cannot be omitted or replaced.
E.g.
• The news 判断近义词(that) she heard is true. 她听到的消息是真的。 (Attributive clau) The word that can be omitted.

(Appositive clau) The word why cannot be replaced or omitted
5. He must answer the question whether he agrees to it or not. 他必须回答他是否同意这样一个问题。
(Appositive clau) The word whether cannot be omitted.
The relations between modified words and the claus
• The relation between appositive clau and the modified noun is apposition. It can be formed into “ object+ link verb(系动词)+ predictive(表语)” .
E.g.
1.The news that he won the first place is true. 他赢得冠军的那个消息是真的。
After reforming it into the type:
” object+ link verb+ predictive”
↓
The news is that he won the first place. 消息是他赢得了冠军。
The ntence still can make n. So it is an appositive clau.
The types of modified words
• The antecedents in attributive clau can be various. They can be in plural form; yet the ones in appositive clau cannot be in plural form. They are usually the abstract nouns.
E.g.
1. The possibilities that she was offered emed very great.她得到的可能性似乎大些。(Attributive clau)
2. Her mother was worried about the possibility that her daughter dislike to go to school. 她的母亲很担心,她女儿有可能不喜欢上学。(Appositive clau)
When guided with when, why and where
• the words when, why and where guide the subordinate clau in an attributive or appositive clau. They modify or explain time, reason and location. But when they are in
appositive clau, they are not the apposition with time , reason and location.
E.g.
1. I still remember the day when I first came to Beijing. 我仍然记得初次来北京的那天。
2. I have no idea when she will be back. 我不知道她何时回来。
3. This is the hou where I lived two years ago. 这是我两年前住的房子。
4. The question where we shall have a meeting hasn‘t decided. 我们到什么地方去开会,这个问题没有决定。
