EDEM Dynamics Coupling (Licensable Feature)
EDEM Dynamics Coupling is an interface to enable EDEM’s geometry motion to be controlled by any suitable 3rd-party dynamics application. For example, it can be ud to couple EDEM with MSC Software’s engineering analysis software Easy5 and Adams. Once licend, using the Dynamics Coupling Interface with Easy5 is a simple four-step process:
1. Setup Dynamics Coupling in EDEM.
2. Setup EDEM Coupling in your 3rd-party dynamics application.
3. Setup EDEM Inputs and Outputs.
4. Monitor and restart the dynamics application’s rver.
Refer to the Online Help or EDEM Ur Guide for full details.
Integrated Bonded Particle Contact Model
EDEM 2.1 includes a bonded particle model which integrates a standard Hertz-Mindlin
contact model with a load-limited particle bonding. The Bonded Particle contact model
can be ud to bond particles together using the following configurable parameters:

parameters: Normal Stiffness : the tensile/compressive stiffness along the bond’s principal axis
Shear Stiffness : Shear stiffness in the orthogonal plane to the
bond’s principal axis

Custom Particle Properties
With Custom Particle Properties you can dynamically define custom physical particle
attributes to u in your simulation. Custom properties can be visualized, analyzed, and
exported just like any other particle attribute. When loaded, contact models, particle body
forces, and coupled applications can all supply new properties and share data on a per-
particle basis.
From the Particles tab in the Creator, click Custom Properties to open the Property
Manager window:

The Property Manager window is in two halves: the bottom half is where you t-up and
modify new custom particle properties. When simulation starts, the tentative properties
move to the top half which lists all finalized properties. Once a property is finalized, you
cannot modify or delete it.
Click New Ur Property to add a new tentative particle attribute. Once added, the new
property becomes available in the following areas:
Factory parameters (Factories tab in the Creator)
Export data (File > Export Data dialog)少俞
Attribute coloring (Coloring tab in the Analyst)
Bin group data queries (Binning tab in the Analyst)
Histograms, Line Graphs, Scatter Plots, and Pie Charts
Refer to the EDEM Programming Guide for more details on Custom Particle Properties.
Note to u custom particle properties with ur-defined contact models requires an
EDEM Extended API licen (e page 6).
