Lifelong learning
Lifelong learning es citizens provided with learning opportunities at all ages and in numerous(许多的) contexts(背景): at work, at home and through leisure(空闲的) activities, not just through formal channels such as school and higher education. Lifelong education is a pedagogy (教育的)often accomplished(完成) through distance learning or e-learning, continuing education, homeschooling or correspondence cours.
It includes postgraduate programmes for tho who want to improve their qualifications(资格条件), bring their skills up to date or retrain(重复教育) for a new line of work. Internal corporate training has similar goals, with the concept(观念) of lifelong learning ud by organizations to promote a more dynamic(动态的;有动力的) employee ba, better able to react in an agile(灵活的;灵敏的) manner to a rapidly changing climate. In later life, especially in retirement, continued learning takes diver forms, crossing traditional academic bounds(界限) and including recreational activities.
It may be most ufully thought of as a policy respon by largely western governments to
a changing world. The underlying(在下面) changes are a move away from manufacturing to a rvices economy, the emergence of the knowledge economy and the decline(n. 衰微,跌落v. 降低,婉谢) of many traditional institutions(体系) which has been requiring individuals to become more active in managing their lives (e Field, 2006 in Further Reading).
This has led to the realization that formal learning, typically concentrated in the earlier stages of life, can no longer sustain(v. 承受,支持,经受,维持) the individual throughout their life. The policies and associated(a. 联合的)舍不得分离 government publications reached their height in the 1990s. Extended(a. 广大的,扩大范围的,长期的v. 延长,扩充vbl. 延长,扩充) respon by academics pointed out the many flaws in this analysis(n. 分析,解析), but more importantly that this shallow(a. 浅的n. (pl.)浅滩,浅处) analysis by policy writers provided little real direction.
Many of the ideas raid under the umbrella of lifelong learning were becoming incorporated(组成公司的,合成一体的) into mainstream(n. 主流) education anyway e.
g. the evolution of curriculum(课程,全部课程
curricula(复数)curriculum vitae:履历表) which focud less on knowledge and more on how to learn. One of the key fundamental problems was that policy pronouncements on lifelong learning were criticizing the formal learning system (primary, condary and tertiary education system) without realizing that what the policy documents什么是矿泉水(n. 文档) were talking about was primarily informal learning.简谱钢琴
Lifelong learning documents have pointed out the lack of support for learning beyond formal education, but it remains less clear whether we really do need such support but more importantly what the nature of such supports should be.
One of the reasons why lifelong education has become so important is the acceleration(n. 加速,促进,加速度) of scientific and technological progress. Despite the incread duration of primary, condary and university education (14-18 years depending on the country), the knowledge and skills acquired(a. 已取得的,已获得的,已成习惯的) there are usually not sufficient(a. 足够的,充分的) for a professional career spanning(n. 跨越(跨度,拉线,生成,长成) three or four decades耳屎多是什么原因>六年级语文(n. 十年).
The European Union adopted a Communication in October 2006 entitled "It's never too late to learn". This document suggests lifelong learning to be the core of the ambitious Lisbon 2010-process, in which the whole of the European Union should become a learning area. The OECD is also conducting rearch on lifelong learning. See Qualifications frameworks and lifelong learning
