The frame may also enable the mounting of the plate to the substrate (which be part of a vehicle, or a wall, or a support such as a post or frame, etc). The frame compris a backing plate. The backing plate is configured so as to define a channel into which the licen plate can be located for retention at the backing plate. For example, the backing plate may be configured so as to be extruded. The backing plate, whilst supporting (e.g. whilst cradling and protecting the licen plate) can also facilitate mounting of the frame (and hence of the licen plate) to a substrate. For example, the backing plate may be adapted to provide a so-called "universal mounting"
