最主要的区别是含有元音音标的多少：区分如下
单音节单词：一个单词音标中只有一个元音的，我们称这个单词是单音节的单词。
双音节单词：一个单词音标中有两个元音的，我们称这个单词是双音节的单词。
多音节单词：一个单词音标中有两个以上元音的，我们称这个单词是多音节的单词。
