A letter to the University Newspaper on Changing Teaching System
Dec, 23, 2006
Dear Sirs,
I’m nding you this letter to offer my opinions regarding whether we should change traditionally unitary teaching system into a tri-dimensional one, which has recently become a heated issue in your paper.
In my view, both traditional teaching and tri-dimensional one have their advantages and disadvantages. While traditional teaching does have such limit as restricting students’ vision, it offers a face-to-face communication between teachers and students that no other teaching can provide. Similarly, while tri-dimensional teaching offers a more convenient way
of studying, it will somehow make students more passive simply becau they have no opportunity to speak out.
Personally I think it would be better to integrate the two teaching methods so as to fully utilize their advantages and avoid their disadvantages.

Reform of English Education
As college English education is greatly emphasized with the rapid development of global communication, tbe defects that exist in the current educational system are open to more criticism- It is widely acknowledged that a thorough reform of college English education should be under way.
People ask for English education reform mainly becau of the Inadequacy of college English education under the current system. On the one hand, many college English teachers underestimate the role interest plays in English learning and keep preaching in c
lass. On the other hand, under the current system, most Chine students tend to parate vocabulary memorizing, grammar, listening, speaking, reading, and writing from each other and therefore their English is also “broken” in this way. This has also greatly contributed to the “dumb English” of many Chine students.
In my view, to reform English education, colleges and universities should encourage students to speak English in class and hold more activities to promote students' oral English. Teachers should focus on attracting students with vivid teaching and arou students' enthusiasm in learning English. With the collaboration, the reform of college English education will surely yield plentiful] fits.
