China will launch its Shenzhou-14 crewed
spaceship on Sunday, the China Manned Space Engineering Office (CMSEO)said at a press conference on Saturday.
The spaceship is scheduled to blast off at 10:44 a.m. Beijing Time from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centerin northwestern China in a Long March-2F Y14 rocket which is about to start propellant filling.
Chine astronautsChen Dong, Liu Yang and Cai Xuzhe have been lected to carry outthe Shenzhou-14 space mission, said the CMSEO.
The launch of the Shenzhou-14 spaceship is the first manned space mission in the construction pha of China's space station.
The Shenzhou XIV mission — China’s ninth manned spaceflight— launchedSunday morning from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the northwestern Gobi Dert.
A Long March 2F rocket carrying the spacecraft blasted off at 10:44 am from a rvice tower inside the oasis-like launch center.
The three crew members — mission commanderSenior ColonelChen Dong, Senior Colonel Liu Yang and Senior Colonel Cai Xuzhe — are being nt to the Tiangong space station. They are scheduled to staythere for half a year to complete the asmbly of the colossal station.
This is the cond time Chen and Liu have ventured into space.
When the crew’s mission finishes around the end of this year, the Tiangong station will be fully operational.
The flight of Chen and his teammates is also expected tomarkthe beginning of a decade where, barring no accidents, there will be Chine people in outer spaceevery day.
