复杂的比较级句型剖析
在英语中，当对两个事物进行程度上的比较时，要采用形容词和副词的特定表现形式或特定句型，即形容词和副词的三个比较等级：同级比较、比较级和最高级。
1.“(not) as (so)+ a(n) + N.+ adj. + as ...”
This is as good an example as the other is.这个例子和另外一个一样好。
I can carry as much paper as you can.你能搬多少纸，我也能。
2. ”A is as much + N + as B is ..” 【此句型意为“…和…同样…”。“as much ＋<名词>＋as＋（be）＋<主词>”的be 通常省略或放句末。】
Comets are just as much members of the sun’s family as (are) the other planets. （彗星和其他的行星同样是太阳家族的成员。）
To eat too much is as much a bad thing as to eat nothing.（吃太多和什么都不吃同样是坏事。）
He is as much a member of the orchestra as Tom. （他和汤姆同样是管絃乐队的成员。）
3.．"not so much．．．as．．．" 【此句型强调的是第二个as后面的成分。可译为：与其说...不如说...。相当於“<名词>＋rather than＋<名词>”。】
1）He is not so much a writer as a scholar. 与其说他是作家倒不如说他是学者。
2）He is not so much a genius as a hard worker.他的努力胜於天份。
3）The Apollo program was not so much a scientific achievement as a
technical accomplishment.阿波罗计划与其说是一项科学成果，不如说是一项技术成就。
4）Happiness hinges not so much on wealth as on health. 快乐与其说在於财富倒不如说在於健康。
5）One’s greatness lies not so much in his wealth as in his character. 一个人的伟大与其说是由他的财富来判断，倒不如说是由他的品德来判断。

4..... as ... as one can
Our teacher explained the lesson to us as clearly as he could.我们的老师尽可能清楚地为我们解释这一课。
She needed to soften her request to make it as polite and courteous as she could. 她需要使请求语气柔婉，以便尽可能把它变成有礼貌与客气。
You should be as careful as you can in making friends. 在交朋友方面，你应该尽可能小心。
We had better learn by heart as many ntence patterns as we can. 我们最好尽可能多背句型。
5.．"as．．．as．．．"句型还可以用来比较一个事物或一个人的两个不同的特征，表示两个特征同时存在，具有both．．．and．．．的含义，可译成："既……又……"。例如：
The landlord was as greedy as cruel．这个地主既贪婪又残忍。
The problems are as numerous as trivial．问题既多又繁琐。
It is as your fault as yourwife’s．这既是你的错误也是你妻子的错误。
6. A is to B what C is to D
The people is to the Party's army what/as water is to fish. 人民的军队离不开人民，就象鱼离不开水。
Intellect is to the mind what sight is to the body. 智力之于大脑，犹如视力之于躯体。Twelve is to three as four is to one. 12之于3等同于4之1。

7．"As X is to Y，so is A to B．"：这个句型表示A与B之间的关系就像X与Y之间的关系，以人们所熟知的两个事物之间的关系说明一个不被熟知或被忽视的两事物之间的关系，是一种类比，可译成："A对于B，犹如X对于Y"。例如：
As the hou is to the man，so is the nest to the bird．鸟巢对于鸟的作用，就像房屋对于人的作用。
As lungs are to the animal，so are leaves to the plant．叶子对于植物的作用犹如肺脏对于动物的作用。

8．"more A than B"：表示与"not so much．．．as"类似的含义，肯定的是A，而在一定程度上否定B。可译成："与其说是B，还不如说是A"。例如：
