1. The structural view of language(结构主义语⾔理论)
The structural view of language is that language is a system of structurally related elements for the transmission of meaning.

2. The functional view of language(功能主义语⾔理论)
The functional, or communicative view of language is the view that language is a vehicle for the expression of functional
meaning.
功能主义语⾔理论也叫语⾔交际理论,它认为语⾔是表达功能意义的⼯具。
British linguists developed a system of categories bad on the communicative needs of the learner (Johnson and Marrow,
1981)and propod a syllabus bad on communicative functions. The functional view not only es language as a
linguistic system but also a means for doing things.
