I have kept in touch with some American friends I made at Harvard Model
United Nations since we parated. Interestingly, we got to know each other simply
becau we shared a table at a luncheon held by HMUN. On this occasion, Chine
students naturally sat together to eat while Americans usually took the chance to make
friends. That was why I felt uneasy when my new American friend came to sit
opposite me. But I was soon attracted and impresd by his frankness. Actually all
Americans encountered by us in America were very friendly and we felt free to talk to
them on the road. Some of them even offered to take us to the nearby scenic spots
when learned that we were tourists.
Americans’ straightforwardness helps them easily make new friends while
Chine people may need a longer time to get to know others since we are relatively
conrvative and tend to keep distance from strangers. In this n, Chine people

thick edges. Our relationship network is restricted to the inside of
the circle plus its “halation”. However, Americans’ interpersonal relationship can be
compared to a ray departing from a point and thus one person after another, through

network can expand by multiples within a short time. Moreover, the mutual help
between one another is given on a rational basis since their relationship is not too
clor. A more striking contrast is that the network of Chine students is bad on
that of our parents and family while American students independently expand their
own network through their social interactions. A well-connected social network of
young American elites is usually built on their own with the network of their friends
especially their alumni.
Why Do I Select Finance
I have lected finance as my major, partly for sake of interest and partly
becau it can play a role in solving wealth inequality—a vere problem in the
coming years especially in developing countries like China. Without corresponding
financial awareness and financing notions, the rapid development of the economy will
aggravate the social contradictions to some extent. Through my rearch and practice
and by learning advanced ideas and methods from the west, I hope I can make my
contribution to establishing and improving Chine financial market, helping people
manage their wealth with new financial products and more importantly, simplifying
the elusive financial concepts and making them all accessible to the public.
Moreover, my independent thinking and ability to solve problems is the key to
my success in the robot competition. Being obrvant of life, I have already made
some small inventions like houhold water circulation system, fixed back rub tool,
etc. Some of them are just drawn up but some are already made into models and
practical objects. At prent I have not applied for patents for my inventions but in the
future I will turn my ideas into realities. To bring more convenience to our daily life, I
will strive to invent more things and even try my hand at the intriguing robots and
artificial intelligence.
When I was in middle school, I participated in various community rvice and
voluntary activities. I take delight in rving others in this direct way. In Boston I will

to make u of my professional knowledge and relationship network to establish a
regional public rvice program of my own. With my broadening horizon and
increasing experience, my plan is likely to become more specific and practical.

communications among different countries. As I am skilled in Chine calligraphy, I
wish to make my efforts in this form of art to the cultural exchanges between western
countries and China.
Why Do I Select Finance
One of the reasons why I choo Finance as my major is I have long dreamed of
becoming an entrepreneur who is possd of flexibility, accurate judgment, wisdom
and calmness in front of complicated situations. My father ud to say to me that the
first ten years in China is the world of real estate property while the dominator for the
cond decade will be replaced by finance which, in esnce, is the highly-efficient
u of money. I am eager to have a deeper understanding of this field, exploring the

Soon after entering into the college, I opened a bookstore, partnering with a few
of my friends. Establishing one’s own business is never a easy thing. At the very
beginning, we were overwhelmed by a ries of problems: book management, unfair
prices from bookller, confidence crisis among partners, low sales volume, etc. In
spite of all the difficulties, we showed a strong faith and a great endurance,
overcoming all of them one by one within a quite short period. We made a clear labor
division, everyone having his own part to play, to strengthen the book management.
For the unfair purchasing prices, we made contact with veral bookmen, bargaining
and negotiating with them time and time again until we were convinced that the price

continuous thriving of a business. That is why I am more determined now to expand
my horizon by studying in Britain, who business school holds a leading position
across the world. I firmly believe the advanced knowledge, down-to-earth practices,

In addition, I am fond of new, constantly-changing things. Since childhood, my
father took me to travel to different places, leaving our footprints in a dozen of

big occasions and meet more people. Since I was a little girl, my father have taken me
to attend a lot of gatherings, big or small. At the gatherings, I enjoyed listening to
adult talking, intrigued by the wisdom and wonderful thinking in it. In the world of
adults, I e the colorfulness of interaction and learned some talking skills even before
I knew it. My ability of interpersonal communication will be, I belive, a strong
advantage when I truly start my own business in the future.
My good communication abilities and my keen interest in different and new
things are two of my important qualites to blend in the world of finance. The
experience and lessons I have learned from my pioneering work will help me to be
more targeted in my future study. I truly hope I will be given the honor to study in the
university to fulfill my dreams of becoming a successful businesswoman and starting
a career I would be striving for in my whole life.
