The Spring Festival

The Spring Festival is the most important

festival in China，Children like the festival

very much，becau they can have delicious

food and wear new clothes。Street with dragon

and lion dance and some other carnival

activities。CCTV will held the grand Spring

Festival gala。The Spring Festival falls on the

1st day of the 1st lunar month， often one

month later than the Gregorian calendar. It

originated in the Shang Dynasty（c. 1600 BC-c. 1100 BC）from the people's sacrifice to gods

and ancestors at the end of an old year and

the beginning of a new one.

Several days before the new year, people

begin to prepare. Farmers kill pigs,sheep,cocks

and hens. City dwellers buy meat fish and

vegetables. Hous are cleaned;coupletsare

posted on the doors. Colourful lanterns are

hung at the gate.

On the eve of the new year,each family has

its members gatherd together and eats a family

reunion dinner. After the meal they watch TV

until the clock strickes twelve. Then every

family ts off long strings of small

firecrackers and other fire works to welcome

the new year.
