小说《傲慢与偏见》英语读后感 篇二
小说《傲慢与偏见》英语读后感
Many people simply regard Pride and Prejudice as a love story, but in my opinion, this book
is an illustration of the society at that time. She perfectly reflected the relation between money
and marriage at her time and gave the people in her works vivid characters.
The characters have their own personalities. Mrs. Bennet is a woman who makes great
efforts to marry off her daughters. Mr. Bingley is a friendly young man, but his friend, Mr. Darcy,
is a very proud man who ems to always feel superior. Even the five daughters in Bennet family
are very different. Jane is simple, innocent and never speaks evil of others. Elizabeth is a clever
girl who always has her own opinion. Mary likes reading classic books. (Actually she is a pedant.)
Kitty doesn’t have her own opinion but likes to follow her sister, Lydia. Lydia is a girl who follows
exotic things, handsome man, and is somehow a little profligate. When I read the book, I can
always find the same personalities in the society now. That is why I think this book is indeed the
reprentative of the society in Britain in the 18th century.
The family of gentleman in the countryside is Jane Austen’s favourite topic. But this little
topic can reflect big problems. It concludes the stratum situation and economic relationships in
Britain in her century. You can find the from the very beginning of this book.
The first ntence in this book is impressive. It reads: “It is a truth well known to all the
world that an unmarried man in posssion of a large fortune must be in need of a wife”。 The
undertone is very clear: the foundation of the marriage at that time is not emotion but
posssion.
People always think that Austen was an expert at telling love stories. In fact, the marriage in
her book is not the result of love, but the result of economic needs. After reading this book, I
know the truth is that a poor woman must be in need of a husband, a wealthy man.
I couldn’t forget how eager Mrs. Bennet wants to marry off her daughters. If you want to
know why she is so crazy about the things, I must mention the situation in Britain at that time.
Only the eldest son had the privilege of inheriting his father’s posssions. Younger sons and
daughters who are ud to luxurious lives have no choice but marry a man or woman in
posssion of a large fortune to continue their comfortable lives. Thus, we can e that getting
married is a way to become wealthier, particularly for women without many posssions. Jane
Austen told us that money and posssion determined everything, including marriage and love in
her century.
In “Pride and Prejudice”, the sister of Mr. Bingley strongly oppod his plan of marrying Jane
becau the Bennets don’t have many posssions and their social positions are much lower than
them. From this, we can e there are a lot of obstacles for a not very rich woman to marry a
wealthy husband. The society, the relatives would not allow them to get married.
In modern society, although the marriages of economic needs have decread rapidly, the
concept of “money determines everything” is still rooted in some people’s mind. A lot of parents
try hard to interfere their children’s marriages. Education background, posssions, jobs remains
the main reason that may influence one’s marriage. Marry for money is still a big problem in our
society. We can’t help thinking: can money determine everything?
Austen left this problem for us to think. The genius of Jane Austen lies in this perfect
simplicity, the simplicity that reflects big problems. Although Austen was only 21 when she wrote
“Pride and Prejudice”, her sharp obrvation of social lives makes the style of this book
surprisingly mature and lively. The plots in her works are always very natural. The development of
the plot is as inevitable as a problem in mathematics. I think the depth of Pride and Prejudice is
the reason that makes this book prominent and classic. Today, her book still can be the guide
telling us the economic relationships both at her time and in modern time.
英语小说读后感 篇三
The book was written by Emily Bronte, it published in at that time, it emed to
hold little promi, lling very poorly and receiving only a few mixed reviews. I found this in our
school library, I cho this book becau the title attracted me. The book is structured around
two parallel love stories, the first half of the novel centering on the love between Catherine and
Heathcliff, while the less dramatic cond half features the developing love between young
Catherine and Hareton. In contrast to the first, the latter tale ends happily, restoring peace and
order to Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange. In the story, the two hous, Wuthering
Heights and Thrushcross Grange, reprent opposing worlds and values.
I spent twenty days reading this book. After reading this book, I felt for Heathcliff at first.
Heathcliff begins his life as a homeless orphan on the streets of Liverpool, and then he tyrannized
by Hindley Earnshaw. But he becomes a villain when he acquires power and returns to Wuthering
Heights with money and the trappings of a gentleman. His malevolence proves so great and
long—lasting. As he himlf points out, his abu of Isabella—his wife is purely sadistic, as he
amus himlf by eing how much abu she can take and still come cringing back for more.
Catherine reprents wild nature, in both her high, lively spirits and her occasional cruelty.
She loves Heathcliff so intenly that she claims they are the same person. However, her actions
are driven in part by her social ambitions, which initially are awakened during her first stay at the
Lintons, and which eventually compel her to marry Edgar. Catherine is free—spirited, beautiful,
spoiled, and often arrogant, she is given to fits of temper, and she is torn between her both of the
men who love her. The location of her coffin symbolizes the conflict that tears apart her short life.
She is buried in a corner of the Kirkyard. In contrast to Catherine, Isabella Linton—Catherine’s
sister—in—law reprents culture and civilization, both in her refinement and in her weakness.
Ultimately, she ruins her life by falling in love with Heathcliff. He never returns her feelings and
treats her as a meretool in his quest for revenge on the Linton family.
Just as Isabella Linton rves as Catherine’s foil, Edgar Linton rves as Heathcliff’s. Edgar
grows into a tender, constant, but cowardly man. He is almost the ideal gentleman. However, this
full assortment of gentlemanly characteristics, along with his civilized virtues, proves uless in
Edgar’s clashes with his foil. He es his wife obviously in love with another man but unable to do
anything to rectify the situation. Heathcliff, who gains power over his wife, sister , and daughter.
The whole story make people’s mood heavy. Fortunately, the end is happy.
The author Emily Bronte lived an eccentric, cloly guarded life. She was born in 1818, two
years after Charlotte—the author of Jane Eyre and a year and a half before her sister Anne, who
also became an author. Her father worked as a church rector, and her aunt, who raid the
Bronte children after their mother died, was deeply religious. Emily Bronte did not take to her
aunt’s Christian fervor, the character of Joph, a caricature of an evangelical, may have been
inspired by her aunt’s religiosity. The Brontes lived in Haworth, a Yorkshire village in the midst of
the moors. The wild, desolate expans—later the tting of Wuthering Heights—made up the
Brontes daily environment, and Emily lived among them her entire life. She died in 1848, at the
age of thirty.

英文小说读后感 篇五
Henry was born in Greensboro, North Carolina. His father, Algemon Sidney Porter, was a
physician. When William was three, his mother died, and he was raid by his parental
grandmother and paternal aunt. William was an avid reader, but at the age of fifteen he left
school and then worked in a drug store and on a Texas ranch. He continued to Houston, where he
had a number of jobs, including that of bank clerk. After moving in 1882 to Texas, he worked on a
ranch in LaSalle County for two years. In 1887 he married Athol Estes Roach; they had one
daughter and one son., he died in New York on June 5th 1910.
In this novel, there are many short ficition, every of them are worth reading, but The Gift of
the Magi left me a deep impression is, I think this is a good article I have ever read, it is
meaningful.
In this article, ud his style of writing narrated a winding and simple story with
humorous and a light sad, in western literary area this theme of prenting the gift in the
Christmas eve is so ordinary, some of them is wonderful, but I think The Gift of the Magi is the
best one.
First, let’s looked from the content. the entire article took one pair of poorly love husbands
and wives in American prenting the Christmas gift as a middle line, The family houwife in
order to save each coin, she count each one. Even though, entire family only left one dollar and
eighty-ven cents on Christmas Eve. The author did not describe much about the poor family, he
ud one dollar and eighty-ven cents to draw the whole novel, the houwife Della who loves
her husband deeply count the money three times, she cried sadly for she could not buy her
husband an satisfactory gift. was good at using little words to make the sketch and build
atmosphere, then the reader will lost in the article, tasting and pondering the character"s destiny.
The gloomy atmosphere which was built by one dollar and eighty-ven cents through the whole
novel, even when the couples saw gifts, it still contained a little pain. The author had written a
poor husband"s and wife"s pain, also enlightens for the people let them obtain beautiful
influencing and lead the reader’s interest to a deep boundary when he was describe the
character’s thought disposition and plot. This is the true value of The Gift of the Magi.
In order to give her husband an exquisite watch chain, Della sold her beautiful hair though
his husband James loved it. James realized that Della had worshipped long for the t of combs,
side and back, in Broadway window, he also sold his valuable watch which belonged his
grandparents. Della’s hair and James’ gold watch is the most precious property which in this poor
family. In order to express the deep sincere love to the spou, all of them had lost the two
at the Christmas eve. Happiness in a twinkling had paid the expensive price, but following is the
deep pain. after consider the true life ,O Henry had screened the main plot carefully, made this
ordinary theme bright again, gold watch and beautiful hair are the great wealth for the poor
family which gain 20 dollar per week, This regret brought astringent feeling, caud each reader’s
heart to tremble. This is condensing the real contradiction which the social real life is unable to
solve multiplies really becau of the writer deep style of writing, cau reader"s pitying with the
sympathy, and lead them to a more profound ponder. For a while ntimental impul Della and
James had extremely sacrificed most precious thing for each other. In tho only money
all-powerful societies, their gift can not regard as wisdom, they lost wealth, but they deepened
the precious sincere love. In love and in wealth contradiction they have sacrificed the latter.
The novel revelation society reality does not depend on preaching, but depend on the
development of character’s emotion. Inspires the reader to touch, feels the character who have
the tragedy color. In this society which money can buy love, psychology and ntiment appear
the distortion, the sincere deep love between James and Della has filled with writer’s idealism.
oes not write the money to ruin love in this society, but wrote the artistic flavor in this
gloomy lens, admired the intelligence of James and Della, This is certainly unusual manpower pen,
Therefore, the work gives us is not depression and gloomy, But is the beautiful pursue and the
attachment, Thus lead the reader to the noble boundary.
Processing novel ending, Is O Henry’s most creative contribution, also caus him enjoys the
great reputation in American and in the world history of literature. He is good at designing plot
theatrically, lays down the foreshadowing, finally appears a beyond expectation result in the
ending which makes the reader to feel suddenly es the light, joy after sorrow, also beside
anticipation and in reason, strike the table and shout bravo.
Henry is worth the world famous novelist, his excellent writing technique enabled his novel
to have the title of .
I have read many kinds of article, before reading ’s article, I liked detective book, but
after reading this book, I knew short fiction is better, Henry’s humors gave me a deep impression,
it will never feel boring no matter how many times you have read.
英文小说读后感 篇六
--Thoughts given by Sherlock Holmes and the Duke’s Son
Written in the first chapter of the book Pride and Prejudice is an extraordinary ntence of
which even a person who has had only a brief look upon the book will not fail to receive a deep
impression-It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in posssion of a good
fortune must be in want of a wife. In terms of Sherlock Holmes, we’d better alter the ntence
into “It is a fact universally accepted by readers throughout the world that an excellent book in
posssion of our famous detective Sherlock Holmes is undoubtedly a masterpiece of all times.”
Perhaps this is one of the most obvious explanations for the unrivaled popularity of “Holmes
ries” in the field of detective stories. Overwhelmed by the remendations provided by my
friends, I decided to take a look on this Sherlock Holmes and the Duke’s Son originally published
by Oxford University Press.
As a whole, this book is about a ca concerning the Duke’s missing son. Arthur, the Duke’s
son, was found out in a certain morning to have disappeared, acpanied with which was also the
disappearance of the German teacher. The school master Dr. Huxtable then turned to the famous
detective of the time Sherlock Holmes for help. Realizing how tough and important the ca is,
Holmes immediately made up his mind to accept the ca and followed Dr. Huxtable back to
Mackleton by train. Having formed a rough idea about the whole matter, Holmes probed into the
ca immediately and had a careful investigation of the entire area shortly after the arrival,
during the process of which he discovered the body of the German teacher Heidegger. Finally,
primarily due to his prominent ability as a detective, he managed to unravel the mystery and
obtained the twelve thousand pounds promid by the Duke.
Having once started reading this fiction, I was pletely immerd in the mysterious story
prented by the book. As the saying goes, “Well begun, half done”。 At the beginning of the
story, just like many other detective stories, the author gives us a brief description of the
condition by the words of a client. However, unlike other ones, this story first delineates the
client’s strange behavior at length to indicate the verity of the incident in order to attract the
readers to continue reading it. As is known to all, vivid depiction is esntial to detective stories
since it can help the readers understand each figure’s characteristics and visualize the scenes,
thus making the story more authentic and attractive. Therefore, trying to prent a “real world”
to his readership, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, author of the original “Holmes ries”, has skillfully
arranged the plots of the whole story from the perspective of Dr. Watson, a character not so
specialized in discovering the truth hidde
n behind the enigmatic happenings as Holmes but so loyal to Sherlock Homes as a friend
that he always acpanies Holmes wherever he goes. In this way, he elaborately depicted every
scene and character in the book, Apart from the special start, the ending of the whole story,
being dramatic but reasonable, is certainly an outstanding one. After all, except the author
himlf, who knows that the Duke’s emingly ordinary cretary is in fact the Duke’s bastard? In
addition, who knows that the Duke actually has already been acquainted with the whole thing
before Holmes solves this plicated problem? Yet, surprising as it is, this ending ems so natural
that it fits all the plots of the story perfectly well. While enjoying this wonderful story, I could do
nothing but admire the wonderful design of this masterpiece as well as the author’s gorgeous
writing skill. Closing my eyes, I can even “e” the story happening just like watching a film. Not
until then did I understand why the Japane cartoon fi
lm Detective Conan ud this “Conan” as the name of its hero.
As far as I am concerned, nothing is more admirable and surprising in the hero Sherlock
Homes than his profound knowledge which has certainly assisted him a lot when he was studying
the ca. Take the bicycle tyres for instance, Holmes actually is capable of recognizing 42 different
varieties of bicycle tyres. What’s more, according to his other stories, Holmes has studied
different kinds of newspapers, cigarettes, people’s footprints and other special things as well.
Therefore, he ems to have the mastery of anything relevant to the cas he deals with. Except
for his illimitable knowledge, Holmes also specializes in arranging the facts in order and then
finding the fact leading him to a GREat discovery or even the truth itlf. From his speaking
“Every mystery has an answer”, we can readily shape the impression of a man with great
intelligence and inflexible will. In this ca, after getting rid of unrelated facts, Sherlock Homes
eventually grasped the clue and discovered the amazing fact.
Needless to say, as a world-renowned masterpiece, Sherlock Holmes and the Duke’s Son has
attracted and is still charming numerous readers from all corners of the world and people from
all walks of life. The “Holmes ries” has already t up a standard against which all the following
detective fictions are measured. Sherlock Holmes, beyond all doubt, has bee a name firmly
rooted in people’s memories. Although Dr. Watson’s closing The Ca Book of Sherlock Holmes in
1927 was a GREat pity to the readers, the discontinuance of the entire “Holmes ries” may have
actually added to the legendary stature of Sherlock Holmes.

英文小说读后感 篇八
Reading a good book can affect a person. Being with someone who is with you can affect
your life. During my stay at home, I took "gone with the wind" from my bookshelf and savored
the stories I described in the English world. The heroine of the story is bright and strong, she is
brave and strong, she is optimistic, she struggles with life and she never gives in.
In the book, she is a beautiful woman with an angels face and a figure of the devil. And the
most profound is her yearning for love and persistence. In the turbulent years of America, she
married two men she didnt like, out of frustration with reality. In her love view, love and marriage
can be parated; And in China, all the love affairs that do not take marriage as the purpo are
rogues, which may be the phenomenon of eastern and western cultural differences.
It ems to us that many foreigners are very open, becau they carry on the final process of
the final flop. But in their eyes, our relationship is open. They believe that marriage is a sacred
and rious thing that distinguishes it from love. They are surprid to e some young people
falling in love without thinking about getting married and having children. And as the world
moves forward, the world is becoming a global village, and the cultural differences are
gradually shrinking.
For the heroine scarletts love view, put it in the current social perspective, will be a rational
concept. In the modern society in the 21st century, women should have their own business, have
the thought to be able to spell, and break out of their own little world; In this way we are not in a
passive position in marriage, in other words, we can live together as equals. Even with an
attractive appearance, the body of the devil, we should not be obsd with it and forget to add
value to ourlves. The rebellious side of the heroine gives us the infinite inspiration of
contemporary women.
In the treatment of love, we can be persistent, we can be brave to love; Even if we
encounter tbacks and injuries, we should look forward to it. In scarletts love in the world no
late, when she lo ASHLEY, thoroughly lost daughter, after her husband left her, she realized that
her love was rhett, she put aside psychic trauma and remor, believe that as long as you work
hard and insist, can the heart of rhett.
In real life, we can not love passionately, but have a positive heart to face everything. The
abnce of love, or the lack of love, the explanation is that there is no point; Still, there will be
more wonderful waiting for you to uncover the veil. The waiting process can be beautiful. We
often say that a persons wonderful. We can develop our own hobbies, invest in our specialties,
work well, live well, treat you well, become confident, and your charm will be everywhere.
In the days of reading "gone with the wind", the portrayal of a strong image has made my
heart grow stronger and stronger. Beauty and not pride, have the mind, dare to do, I think is what
I am longing for.

about 300 short stories in his life, and all of his stories were ingeniously conceived and its endings

aesthetic acquisition I can gained after reading, with exception of any understanding about the
