American writer wrote the novel in only eight weeks, basing on

one of his friend’s true experience. He created the figure of the

old man which was later called by people “tough man” and

showed his life attitude and spiritual world. The most well-known

ntence of this novel and also the topic of it is that: “man is not

made for defeat. A man can be destroyed but not defeated.”

In my opinion, the whole story is about a battle between an

1500-pound salmon, he determined to fight to death even

though he knew clearly that the big fish was much stronger than

him, and finally, he succeeded. But the ordeal was not to the end

even he had succeeded in capturing the big fish. The salmon was

bigger than his fishing-boat, he dad no choices but binding the

fish to one side of his boat. During his way home, the dead

salmon was attacked again and again by shakes followed after

the smell of blood. He had to do everything he could do to

protect his victory. Harpoon was taken away by a shark, he tied

the knife on the oar to stick the shake; the knife was broken, he

There are various reasons of being failed, but even an insignificant

failure is an unbearable strike. Going to a, he would gain

another hope of being successful. Maybe, the sinister life

environment and the tenacity of life attitude is the reason that

find that it is the positive firm spirits that make us hold our hopes

and keep trying all the time and finally guide the roads towards

human and nature, Hemingway express his opinion that the

courage inside human beings can help us face any failure and e

impresd me so much that I couldnt forget it. This novel mainly

describes an old man fishing alone at a. He caught a big fish

when he met a shark, the old man tried his best to fight with the

shark. The shark ate all the fish he could eat, but there were still

800 pounds left.

Reading this book, my heart cant be calm for a long time.

Its long long ago， maybe before I can read english books.

I dont remember which movie edition I had en. But I was

impresd by the music， the scenery and the costume. I was very

favor of a ction of music in its balls. Its

pretty brisk， liked a wonderful song of a bird. Regarding to

the characters， I liked Elizabeth， the *e，though I didnt think

shes beautiful. But shes smart. However， I didnt pay much

attention to the plot. I thought its so long that it made me

impatient and bored. By now， I havent read the whole story in

English or its Chine version， either. I owe it to my prejudice.

In fact， I didnt understand the story at that time. I didnt

know why it called Pride and Prejudice. Of cour someone was

pride， but I didnt find where s the prejudice. I thought its normal，

the way people treated each other in that. I considered prejudice

would be very disgusting.
