清明节英语介绍

Qingming Festival, also known as Tomb Sweeping Day, is a

traditional Chine festival celebrated on the 104th day after

the winter solstice (or the 15th day from the Spring Equinox).

In 2020, it falls on April 4th.

Qingming Festival is a time when people remember their

ancestors and show their respect. It is generally celebrated

on the fourth day of April in the lunar calendar. During the

day, people will go to their ancestors' gravesites to sweep and

tidy up the graves, pay respect with burning incen and paper

money, and generally show their filial piety. People also bring

food to the gravesites as an offering. Finally, they make fruit

and vegetable offerings to the deities of mountains, rivers and

local spirits.

Qingming Festival is also a time for family reunions.

People gather together for a reunion dinner, to honor the memory

of their ancestors, and to celebrate the coming of spring.

Activities such as flying kites and going on picnics are also

popular during this time.

In some places, especially in the south, people also eat

a cold dish called 'tangyuan' on Qingming Festival, which is

made with glutinous rice flour and filled with sweet bean paste.
