The failure of the dielectric of an insulation under the effect of an excessive electric field and/or by physical or chemical deterioration of the dielectric material.

A component which terminates conductors for the purpo of providing connection and disconnectio
n to a suitable mating component. Connectors are designed to be connected and disconnected in the de-energized state unless otherwi specified. See Appendix C.
