Why Don’t We Respect Congress
The Congress of the United States is a very powerful group of men and women. Many of our reprentatives to Congress have been there for long periods of time; however, in most recent elections, many congress members who have rved long terms have been voted out and replaced by new faces. One of the reasons for this turn-over is the decline of respect felt by voters for their reprentatives. Voters in this country and governments around the world have lost respect for the United States. Congress is not respected as a result of their 天艺画室illegal activities炒猪腰花, mudslinging tactics, and their inability to take action.
Over the past veral years, authorities within the government have expod 关于知音的名言illegal activities among members of Congress. Some of the activities include prostitution, illegal financial deals, and bribes accepted from lobbyists or special interest groups. One of the first major scandals involved a congressman who was providing sumptuous living arrangements, fine clothes, and other benefits for a well-known prostitute. Another Congressman was filmed accepting a large sum of money and promising his vote in return.
The most recent scandals have involved either participation in or failure to report financial activities which are prohibited due to conflicts of interest. When Americans elect a man or woman to a position for power or influence, they expect that person to duplicate their own values. When the values of Congress are not as high as their own, Americans tend to lo respect for Congress.
Another reason for declining respect is the mudslinging tactics头发染色 ud during campaigns when battling a particular touchy subject or when trying to discredit an opponent. Leaders in government em unable to find valid, sound reasons for opposing someone. They fail to define their thinking on the issues, so they resort to character assassination as a means of getting elected. In some cas, it takes very careful digging (sometimes illegally) to find the perfect discrediting information. Office holders have even been accud of hiring private detectives to spy on their competitors. Finding discrediting information not only detracts from the competitor but also makes the mudslinger himlf look petty and small.
Finally, each ssion of Congress ems to end with a large number of bills which have not been acted upon. This inactivity happens often when an issue is especially touchy, and Congress is afraid or unwilling to take a stance. Their lack of accomplishment also carries over to their dealings with a President. For instance, when a President prents a budget, Congress resorts to name-calling, infighting, and other tactics which delay passing a budget instead of working together in a unified manner to achieve goals which would benefit the nation as a whole. Re-election and the need for power em to be far more important than the passing of vital legislation which could benefit the nation.
The decline of respect for men and women in Congress grows each time a new scandal erupts. Power, rather than honesty and decency, ems to drive Congressional reprentatives. Illegal activities, mudslinging tactics, and lack of accomplishment have t the standards in recent years, making respect a lost commodity.B族维生素功效
