我想有一天
One night, when I was in deep sleep, our neighbor from across the street fiercely knocked on our front door in a great hurry. She was screaming for us to open it. We ran to the door, and she said only one word as she took off running: “FIRE!”
Immediately we ran out just as the fire engines raced onto our street with their sirens(警报器) screaming. The fire was huge! Flames(火焰) were shooting wildly out of the windows and through the roof of the hundred-year-old, three-story hou next door. The flames were so tall that they were visible a few miles away. Fire engines filled our entire street, from one end to the other, and even blocked the two cross streets.
My husband raced next door to be sure our neighbors had gotten out. All family members were outside and safe, including the dog. He ran to the hous on the other street that backed up to the hou on fire and banged on tho doors to be sure the neighbors were safe, too. They were. The air was thick with smoke, and it was hard to e and breathe as he came back down our street and arrived home.
We were almost grateful for COVID-19. Becau of it, we were wearing our masks as we always did when we were outside. We sat outside watching the firefighters do the wonderful job that they did.
Our street was crowded with fire trucks, eleven in all. One engine had a monster light on it that made the street bright enough that it looked like it was high noon on a sunny day. The medical workers and ambulances also came in ca they were needed. Thank goodness, they were not. Our hou became kind of a “safe hou” with our next-door neighbors coming and going, as needed. It was a safe place for their dog, too. We made sure she had plenty of water, and she stayed in the hou with our dog.

2.(2022·湖南·高三期末)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
司马相如代表作On Friday the 13th of March, my six-year-old son Jack came home with a huge packet of worksheets in his schoolbag. Soon after, I received the email I had feared was coming-Jack’s school would be clod for at least the next two weeks. The COVID-19 quarantine (隔离期) had begun. At least now I would know he was safe at home. I spent the weekend gathering supplies such as pencils, crayons and paper and tting up a classroom on my dining room table.
On the first day of what was referred to as "distance learning", I realized I was being overly optimistic, and I only had one child to teach. He suffers from hearing loss and wears hearing aids. In school, he receives special rvices from a teacher of the deaf, a speech therapist (治疗专家),an occupational therapist, and a physical therapist. In addition to his major class, there was also his music class, art class, computer education, the library, and physical education. I was suddenly ten teachers all at the same time, and the work began piling up!
Although my job as a freelance (自由职业的) writer allows me to work according to my own schedule, I would normally work when Jack was at school. Now that time was taken up with school days at home. This meant I was teaching for most of the day and then working as a writer all afternoon into the evening. Many days didn’t stop until bedtime, and then we were right back at it the next morning. This was the new normal and it was stressful. More than once, I found mylf feeling angry for no particular reason. On one occasion. I shouted angrily at my printer simply becau it wouldn’t work properly.
One day, I was helping Jack with a short journal. As part of his class worksheets, he was required to write and draw about the interesting things that happened at home. I cretly cheered at the opportunity to apply my professional skills to my son’s education.
