countless studies and literature reviews.In “Great Expectations”, Dickens expresd his understanding of the “Common Man”.In the novel, he not only prais the beautiful natural
scenery of the village, he also describes Joe Gargery and Biddy as ordinary people, which are not contaminated by civilization society.In the end of novel, after experiencing the ups and downs of life Pip also returns to be an ordinary person.Joe and Biddy are ordinary country folk, but with noble, honest, simple and kind-hearted nature.Although, they were not rich in material and endured all the hardships of life.However, they are very satisfied with their lives, and happy.Joe is Pip's brother, a perfect “Common Man”.He wasn‟七天无理由t highly educated.But, giving in life, he t a good example for Pip.Joe's is like father of Pip, protect

appearance.However, she is a kind hearted country girl.When Pip says he will not be an ordinary person, Biddy was the first person who taught him reading, writing and arithmetic.After Pip's sister was injured from being attacked, Biddy is the one who comes to Pip's hou, and takes care of Pip‟s sister “It may have been about a month after my sister's reappearance in the kitchen, when Biddy came to us with a small speckled box containing the whole of her worldly effects, and became a blessing to the houhold … Biddy instantly taking the cleverest charge of her as though she had studied her from infancy;”(p.123).Biddy always faces her life with optimistic, contentedly attitude.After Pip informed her that he would be a person who would live in high society for, she said “I only want you to do well, and to be
comfortable.”(p.128).Even after Pip told Biddy how much he love Estella Havisham, and he was willing to become a gentleman just for her.Although, Biddy has a crush on Pip, she still gives Pip wonderful blessing “whatever opinion you take away of me, shall make no difference in my remembrance of you.”(p.150).Few years after, Joe and Biddy are married, in the countryside with simple and happy life.In addition to Joe and Biddy, Pip's experience also exhibited Dickens' understanding of the “Common Man”.Pip began as a completely common child, he lived in happy life.Pip was kind hearted as a child.When he discovered Abel Magwitch is a criminal, although he was very
