It was the cond round of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC, 终极格斗冠军赛) 275 in Singapore on June 12. Chine fighter Zhang Weili gave a spinning back fist (转身鞭拳) to the neck of her rival Joanna Jedrzejczyk from Poland.
This killer blow (致命一击) helped Zhang win. She’s now got the chance to challenge the current UFC strawweight (草量级) champion Carla Esparza from the US. Zhang’s spinning back fist knockout is only the 10th in UFC history and the first ever by a woman. UFC is the world’s top mixed martial arts (MMA, 综合格斗) event.
The fight has sparked (引发) wild celebrations on Chine social media. The 32-year-old is en as a genuine star and even a feminist icon (平权主义偶像). She became China’s first UFC champion in 2019. “Together we put girl power on display in the Octagon (八角笼). We’ve proven to people who said we cannot do certain things that we can,” Zhang said after the fight when interviewed on stage.
Zhang’s fighting dream began young. Her childhood hero, Bruce Lee, inspired her to take up kung fu when she was 6. Later, she learned sanda. She woke up at 4:30 am every day to go for two-hour runs, did schoolwork later in the morning and then practiced martial arts until as late as 9 pm. But at 17, her sanda fighting career ended becau of injuries (伤病). Over the next six years, she tried different jobs, like a kindergarten teacher, a saleswoman and a bodyguard.
However, she still dreamed of being a fighter. She thinks fight sports stand for “competition at the very limit (极限) of human ability”. In 2013, she started learning MMA. Many people think that the sport isn’t suitable (合适的) for the “weaker bodies” of women. But Zhang strongly disagrees. “Anything men can do, women can do, too – and we can do it just as well as them,” she told Sixth Tone, a news website. Obviously (显然), she has proved it’s true!

Have you ever wondered how life began on Earth? Are there aliens in the univer? A new discovery may give you some clues!
In 2020, Japane space probe (探测器) Hayabusa 2 brought back 5.4 grams of sand from Ryugu, a near-Earth asteroid (小行星). Recently, scientists found over 20 types of amino acids (氨基酸) in the sand. This is the first time that amino acids have been found outside Earth.
很字的笔顺What does that mean? Amino acids are key to life. They are the building blocks of proteins (蛋白质). Proteins form our bodies’ organs (器官) and help us live. This finding shows that dust from asteroids, such as the Ryugu, may have brought eds of life to Ear
痰血th billions of years ago, according to Japane professor Hisayoshi Yurimoto at Hokkaido University. It also means that “life could have been born in more places in the univer than previously (之前) thought,” professor Keni Kobayashi at Yokohama National University told Kyodo News.
Previously, people have found amino acids in meteorites (陨石) – space rocks that have fallen to Earth. But they could have been contaminated (污染) by living things on the ground. Hayabusa 2 is groundbreaking becau it nt the sand to Earth without letting it touch the outside air, reported Kyodo News.
中北大学研究生院Hayabusa 2, launched in 2014, aimed to work out the origin (起源) of the solar system (太阳系) and life. NASA has a similar mission. It nt a probe to an asteroid named Bennu. The probe has already collected samples and is going to return to Earth next year.
By comparing the samples from Ryugu and Bennu, scientists will better understand the chemicals (化学物质) in the univer and how life began, according to Science and Techn
ology Daily.
