An analysis of The Egg
The egg is the work by Sherwood Anderson who was an American realistic writer of short story and novels. He was a fighter against industrialization and mechanization and found modern industrial life degrading, humiliating and discouraging.慢四步 In his work, he wrote about lonely, sad people, and he also showed his sympathy for emotionally stunted people, who were the victims of modern existence.
The story is about my father’s failure in his so-called rising in the world and is told in the point of “the son” as a witness or an obrver. A年少白发s the key character of this story, father is dynamic with changes. At the very beginning, father is carefree, emed to be cheerful and contended about his life. But after his marriage, changes took place. Father was bald-headed and no longer happy but insane, frustrated and desperate instead. 怎么增大Sherwood Anderson was so good at using symbolism as a key to extend meaning of something that stands for something el by reason of relationship, association, convention, or accidental remblance… In the story of The egg, the egg is a visible sign of things invisible and symbolism is my point of this report:
1. To start from, the egg symbolizes father’s American Dream. In the forth paragraph egg is first mentioned “They rented ten acres of poor stony land non Griggs’s Road…and launched into chicken rising.” Father dreamed that the-hen-and-chicken cycle would lead them to a wealthy future becau it was a time that American passion took posssion of everyone tightly included my father.
2. But then “one unverd in such matters can have no notion of the many and tragic things can happen to a chicken.” Chicken on the farm could not run away form the fate of getting dias or dying. As indicated, father’s hope was dreadfully disillusioned even though he was so hard working.
3. The writer described poultry monstrosities at length and it was what reprents father’s twisty dreams. “All during our ten years on the chicken farm…most of the money he had earned had been spent for remedies to cure chicken dias.” My father was 厘金制度so tortured by his failure that he even tried to make tho grotesques alive at any rate.
4. After ten-year’s struggle my parents finally gave up that farm and began anther---a rest

5. At the end of this story, father tried his best to entertain his customers by tricks but failed. He wailed with great grief. Father eventually defeated by fate and gave up “American Dream”. “He laid the egg gently on the table and…went to sleep.” If we step back to the American society, we could tell that it is industrialization that ruins this man when values are t that fortune is the only standard for success.

The father tried to conquer the eggs and changed his fate, but in the end failed, sneered by others and fate. The American dream that freedom, equality, fairness of competition is wispy to people who is at the bottom of society.
