How old is the Earth?
Scientists think the Earth formed about 4,600 million years ago—although no one was there to e! They think the Moon formed then, too.
Human beings are very new to the Earth. If you imagine our planet’s 4,600-million-year-long history squeezed into one year, people have only been around since late on 31 December!

Yes, it has! About 200 million years ago, most of the land was joined together in one big piece. Then it began to break up into smaller pieces called continents. The slowly drifted apart until they reached the places they’re in today.
About 200 million years ago there was just one supercontinent called Pangaea.
About 180 million years ago Pangaea began to break up.
About 65 million years ago the continents drifted farther apart.
Today, the continents are still drifting.
Continents are massive pieces of land. There are ven of them in all. Trace them from a map, and try to e how they once fitted together.
Emus live in Australia, rheas in South America, and ostriches in Africa. They look similar, and none of them can fly. They may once have been related to one kind of bird. It could have walked to all three continents millions of years ago, when the land was joined.
North America and Europe are still moving apart by about 4 centimetres each year. That’s about the length of your thumb.

1775年4月,列克星敦民兵打响了北美独立战争的第一枪。同年5月,第二届大陆会议在费城召开。大会决定北美殖民地脱离英国而独立,并制定杰斐逊、富兰克林等五人起草北美独立宣言。经过商定,宣言起草委员会决定将这一重任委托给善于写作的杰斐逊。
从1776年6月11日到28日,杰斐逊满怀激情,写出了《独立宣言》的初稿,并提交大会批审,经过两天逐字逐句的讨论和修改,最后于1关于梦想的励志句子776年7月4日该宣言被通过。美利坚合众国从此正式诞生。
||作者简介||
托马斯·杰斐逊(1743~1826),生于美国佛吉尼亚州,1726年毕业于威廉与玛丽学院,1787年取得律师资格。
杰斐逊于1769年进入殖民地会议,为反英运动领袖之一。1774年发表的小册子《英属北美权利概要》(A Summary View of the Rights of British America)为杰斐逊的重要作品,文中指出英国国会无权为殖民地制定法律。1775年他随佛吉尼亚代表团出席在费城举行的第

When in the Cour of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the parate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the caus which impel them to the paration.
We hold the truths to be lf-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among the are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. That to cure the rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the connt of the governed. That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of the ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall em most likely to effort their Safety and Happiness.
