I've always aimed to be the best, but I'm getting clor and clor to it. That's why I'm not scared of going to North Carolina. Everybody said I should not come, becau I can't play at that level. They told me I'd get into the Air Force Academy, so I could get a job after graduation. They all had other plans for me. But I did have mine. I've always had short - term goals. In retrospect, every single move or accomplishment has led to another. When I was kicked out of the varsity team in my cond year, I learned something. I knew I wouldn't ever be so mirable again. I didn't want the flavor in my mouth, the hole in my belly.
So I decided to be a varsity starter. That's what I focud on all summer. When I worked on
my game, that's what I thought about. And when it did, I had to make a new one, a nsible, manageable one that I could actually reach if I tried hard.

Make the little steps. Otherwi, you're opening yourlf up to all kinds of frustration. Where would you get your trust if the only way to succeed is to be a physician? If you did your best and did not become a doctor, wouldn't that be a failure for your entire life? Certainly not.
All the stairs are like jigsaw pieces. All of them are combined into a picture. If it's complete, then you've achieved your goal. If not, then don't make a fool of yourlf. If you do your best, then you will have achieved something in the process. Not everybody gets the whole picture. Not everybody gets to be the best salesman or the best basketball player. But you're still considered a top talent, and you're a successful person.
That's why I'm always making short - term goals. No matter if it's golf, basketball, business, home or even baball, I have a goal -- a realistic goal -- and I concentrate on it. I ask, I read, I hear. That's what I did for the Chicago White Sox in baball. I'm not afraid to ask anybody anything if I don't know. Why would I be scared? I'm trying to get somewhere.
