In the early 1970s a musical genre was born in the crime-ridden neighborhoods of New York City. Gifted teenagers with plenty of imagination but little cash began to forge a new style from spare parts. Hip-hop as it was then known was a product of pure streetwi ingenuity extracting rhythms and melodies from existing records and mixing them up with aring poetry chronicling life in the hood hip-hop spilled out of the ghetto.

Kool DJ Herc the godfather of hip-hop was a Jamaican-born DJ who moved to the Bronx in 1967. With his unique playlist of RB soul funk and obscure disco Herc quickly became the catalyst of the hip-hop way of life. The kids from the Bronx and Harlem loved his ghetto style which gave birth to the concept of the B-Boy. The B-Boy -- or beat boy break boy Bronx boy -- loved the breaks of Kool Herc and as a result soon created break dancing. The were the people of the hip-hop culture. While Pete DJ Jones was the pio
neer for the black disco crowd in New York City Herc and the B-Boys were the esnce of the hip-hop movement becau of they lived the lifestyle. The way they danced dresd walked and talked was unique as oppod to most of the mainstream culture. It’s a kind of sub-culture. It’s not in touch with the urban streets of America.
Hip-hop ---- a style of music which is compod of two main elements: rapping and DJing along with break-dancing and graffiti the are the four components of hip-hop a cultural movement which began among African Americans in New York City in the 1970s. The term Rap is sometimes ud synonymously with hip-hop music though it is also ud to refer specifically to the practice of rapping which is just one component of hip hop.
Both the musical and lyrical content of Rap still make it anathema to the majority of the public but there is little doubt that its enormous significance as a social document will be recognized when future generations write the history books.
