0621 Waterproofing – wet areas
Workction application
--This workction is applicable to membrane applications to wet areas and is written with reference to AS 3740 and AS/NZS 4858.
-Many wet area membrane systems have CSIRO Appraisals. See Numbers 91, 110, 116, 126, 128, 157, 160, 170, 194 and 208. Most of the are polyester or polyurethane. Some are bituminous. Acrylic systems are also available. Fibreglass is the usual reinforcement, where one is ud. Some of the systems also have Australian Building Product and Systems Certification Scheme Certificates, signifying BCA compliance.
As yet no products appear to have a StandardsMark to AS/NZS 4858, Check at /Supplierquery.asp.

1General
1.1Aims
Responsibilities
General: Provide wet area waterproofing systems which:
-Are graded to floor wastes to dispo of water without ponding.
-Prevent moisture entering the substrate or adjacent areas.
The following are characteristics of the product and should be considered when making lections:
Able to accommodate anticipated environmental conditions.
Able to remain rviceable after material shrinkage and loss of elastic properties.
Resistant to traffic and falling objects.
Chemically compatible with the surrounding building materials.高可儿
Selections: Conform to the Selections.

1.2Cross references
General
General: Conform to the General requirements workction.
The General requirements workction contains umbrella requirements for referenced documents, inspections, tests, samples, contractor’s submissions, proprietary items, manufacturers’ recommendations, warranties, record drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, and the like.
They need not be specified here unless you need to relocate them, for example if this is to be the specification for a package contract. In this ca make sure that the interlocking contracts leave no loopholes, such as work by non-existent ‘others’, and have no overlaps.
Associated workctions
All ctions of this specification are to be referred to as one document.
List workctions cross referenced by this workction. (General requirements references the Common requirements workctions. Do not repeat them here.) You may also wish to direct the contractor to other workctions where there may be work that is cloly associated with this work.

-AS 3740 is intended to apply to residential buildings but notes, in clau 1.1 Scope that it may apply to other buildings where the u of wet areas is similar to that in residential buildings. The design requirements, Section 2, nominate the extent and detailing of waterproofing for typical situations. Nonetheless it is recommended that project specific details be provided to eliminate any conflict in interpretation. Schedule shower bas in the Wastewater workction – the standard covers acrylic, fibreglass and stainless steel.
