Never, ever give up!
As a young boy, Britain's great Prime Minister, SirWinston Churchill, attended a public school calledHarrow. He was not a good student, and had he notbeen from a fa mous family, he probably would havebeen removed from the school for deviating fro m therules. Thankfully, he did finish at Harrow and hirrors there did not preclude hi m from going on tothe university. He eventually had a premier armycareer whereby h e was later elected prime minister. He achieved fame for his wit, wisdom, civic duty, a nd abundant courage in his refusal tosurrender during the mirable dark days of Worl d War II. His amazing determination helpedmotivate his entire nation and was an insp iration worldwide.
Toward the end of his period as prime minister, he was invited to address the patr iotic youngboys at his old school, Harrow. The headmaster said,"Young gentlemen, th e greatest speakerof our time, will be here in a few days to address you, and you shoul d obey whatever soundadvice he may give you." The great day arrived. Sir Winston st ood up, all five feet, five inchesand 107 kilos of him, and gave this short, clear-cut spe ech:"Young men, never give up. Nevergive up! Never give up! Never, never, never, ne ver!"
Personal history, educational opportunity, individual dilemmas - none of the ca n inhibit astrong spirit committed to success. No task is too hard. No amount of prepar ation is too longor too difficult. Take the example of two of the most scholarly scientis ts of our age, AlbertEinstein and Thomas Edison. Both faced immen obstacles and e xtreme criticism. Both werecalled "slow to learn" and written off as idiots by their tea chers. Thomas Edison ran away fromschool becau his teacher whi
pped him repeate dly for asking too many questions. Einsteindidn't speak fluently until he was almost ni ne years old and was such a poor student that somethought he was unable to learn. Yet both boys' parents believed in them. They worked intenlyeach day with their sons, and the boys learned to never bypass the long hours of hard workthat they needed to s ucceed. In the end, both Einstein and Edison overcame their childhoodpercution and went on to achieve magnificent discoveries that benefit the entire worldtoday.

Just like Churchill and Lincoln, only tho who "keep their eyes on the prize", th o who upholda committed and focud will and spirit, will find their endeavors succ essful. Many artists, statesmen,
writers and inventors have had the same experience. T hey achieved prosperitybecau they possd a fierce will to keep preparing and wo rking and a passion to succeed. They attained success, not becau it was easy, but bec au they had the will to overcomeprofound obstacles and to work diligently in the pu rsuit of their goals.

Many people simply say that they want something, but they do not expend the su bstantialeffort required to achieve it. Many people let the threat of failure stop them fr om trying with allof their heart. The cret of success is bad upon a burning inward desire - a robust, fierce willand focus - that fuels the determination to act, to keep prep aring, to keep going even whenwe are tired and fail. As a wi saying goes:"It's not ho w many times you fall down thatmatters. It's how many times you get back up that ma kes success!"
