Analysis of Steve Jobs's Leadership
Introduction
Just as what people usually say, history always gets the first row in truth. So we have been told by history that a leader’s brilliant leadership behaviors is an important guarantee for the success of an enterpri. In the following part, I will illustrate my view more clearly through my analysis of Steve Jobs, a big name and iconic figure in our modern IT industry.
Personal profile
“Steve Paul Jobs, American former Apple CEO, founder. In 1976, when he was 21-year-old Jobs and 26-year-old Wo Zini Ike formed Apple Computer. Jobs created the Macintosh computer has led, ipad, iPod, iTunes Store, iPhone and many other well-known digital product. In 1985, Jobs received a grant from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Medal of state-level technology; 1997 as "Times" on the cover; 2007, Steve Jobs was "Fortune" magazine as the greatest businessman of the year. 2009 by Fortune magazine as the best decade. American CEO, the same year was elected one of Time magazine Person of the Year.”

This is the universally recognized Steve Jobs, his whole life was fulfilled with marvelous legends, which are tied cloly to his individual leadership abilities. Also, we can gain much more valuable inspiration from his leadership behavior traits.
Visionary Leading and Strategic Plans

Visionary leaders work through a vision that appeals to followers’ needs and motivations (Avery, 2004). That is, visionary leaders are expected to provide a clear vision of the future, develop a road map for the journey ahead, and motivate followers to perform and achieve goals beyond normal expectations. This involves the emotional commitment of followers. (Bass, 1985; Kantabutra, 2003).
According to the definition above, we know that vision can be considered as a dream or a beautiful blueprint of the future. At the initial stage of the company establishment, Steve Jobs has already designed a ideal vision--To change the world. From the first Macintosh computer to iPhone4s, every digital product launched by Jobs could leave a deep impression on consumer, surprid the world market greatly, and won the popularity with the massive people as well. Certainly, having a vision alone is not enough to ensure the success of Apply Company. With his being back to Apple company, Jobs immediately made bold reforms as a new start and designed veral strategic plans. At the same time, Steve Jobs firmly decided to shake hands with Bill Gates--his old opponent, and developed a friendly and cooperative relationship with Microsoft company, which became
worldwide hit news. Conquently, Apple company got rid of the long-time unsolvable risks and the market capitalization also incread sharply.
When a leader combined vision and strategic plan together, the future of an organization tends to appear a completely new image. The greatest achievement of Steve Jobs is that he integrated his ideal vision with Apple’s strategic plan, turning the idea--changing the world by Apple’s products into reality and changing it into effort-being actions rather than only keeping it in his mind.
Personality Trait
The theory of personality trait in leadership suggests that effective personalities and trains of a leader are not the decisive element of cultivating a successful leader, but to a large extent, they can decide the leader’s behaviors effective or not.
As for Steve Jobs, he is described as widely arrogant and extremely conceited, as well as a standard perfectionist and elitist. Moreover, he even regarded the majority people as idi
ots. However, the remarkable personality traits are exactly the business philosophy that developing Apple company into a classic without copies. Only hiring the smartest ones, never having a plan B, pursuing cruel perfection, all of them are more requirements and rules of creating Apple products than personal traits of Steve Jobs. Having a look at the unique Apple products, Mini iPod Nano with size of a matchbox, iPod with video function, FrontRow with the function of distant controlling television from your sofa, then you may have a better understanding of how the products give reflection of Jobs’s personality. 小不点儿
In general, the spirits of extreme perfection and crazy pursuing of innovation have become Apple’s brand culture,which are all developed from Jobs’s personal traits.
Unique leadership style
When talking about the leadership style of Steve Jobs, I don’t think a specific leading style can fully describe his special and complicate leadership art. But if I required to classify, I think it much more approaches to the task-oriented leadership style. According t
o Fred Fiedler’s Contingency theory of leadership, “a task-oriented leader focus only on getting the job done, and can be quite autocratic. He or she will actively define the work and the roles required, put structures in place, plan, organize and monitor. However, as task-oriented leaders spare little thought for the well-being of their teams, this approach can suffer many of the flaws of autocratic leadership, with difficulties in motivating and retaining staff”. (Fred Fiedler, 1950s).
The leader behaviors under this type includes distributing tasks, making plans, focusing on the results etc, which are also the leading traits of Steve Jobs. There is a famous nickname for Jobs--a boss from hell. He has a high requirement for his working team, could not bear unsmart staffs. In his famous marathon ssion on every Monday, he and his team have the tradition to check the entire business system, such as the sales of the past days, every little bottleneck design, and even delaying the launching date as long as the design not satisfied him. In the relationship around Steve Jos, many people admit that they have achieved a new level in career that beyond their imagination, and meanwhile, all of the people have the same feeling, that is no place can drive them reaching such ac
