考点1 Although it is impossible to choo the most important discovery, it is possible to single out a few pioneers of the 20th century. (p24)
虽然不可能挑选出最重要的发现，但是挑选出20世纪几个先驱还是有可能的。
【要点提示】
although是从属连词，引导让步状语从句，表示“虽然；尽管；然而”。
We were not tired although we had worked all day.
尽管工作了一天，但我们并不累。
Although he was ill, he worked hard.
他虽然生病，但仍努力工作。
Although he is young, he knows a lot.
尽管他很年轻，但是他知道很多东西。
caomamaI did not know that then, although I learned it later.
当时我不知道那件事，但我后来知道了。
注意：按照英语习惯，although不能与but 连用，如不可说although…庭院鱼池风水, but…。但为了加强前后两句的对比意义，在主句前可以加yet。
Although he had been ill for a month, yet he was never abnt from school.
尽管他长了一个月的病，但是他没有请一天假。
【用法辨析】
although , though
这两个词都作从属连词，引导让步状语从句，可以通用，但although比though的语气强，也比较正式。还有几点不同：
though可以用于倒装句,等于as,但although不可以； though可以与even和as连用,构成短语even though, as though, 分别等于even if, as if，而although不可以； 当置于主句后,从句表示“不过……”；“可是……”时,只用though,不用although。Cheaper as (=though) it is, its quality isn’t good enough.
尽管它便宜点,它的质量不太好。
I’ll buy it even though it's expensive.
即使很贵,我也要买它。
He’s happy, though poor.
他虽然穷,可是很快乐。

There is no doubt about =There is no doubt that …意思为“毫无疑问的是……”。
