Although the video was nothing master-level, just a rather standard homemade fried potato dish, it received more than 200, 000 likes after only three days of posting. In addition to praising the chef, commenters wondered why such a simple Chine dish could look like a fancy cuisine that had been made through tons of effort. “Even the most basic Chine dish needs to have three elements: color, smell and taste. For example, color not only requires a chef to ha ve sharp eyes, but also valuable experience,” said Wang, an experienced Chine chef in Guangzhou.
Chine cooking is not the only type of content covered by the tag. Other popular videos under the tag include “odd food” challenges, traditional Chine dishes and Chine snack tasting, the latter of which has become particularly popular among young omnivore vloggers (video bloggers) living in a world of continually expanding cultural globalization.

But there is still one dark cloud hanging over the vacc ines that many people don't yet understand. The vaccines wil l be much less effective at preventing death and illness if they are introduced into a population where the coronavirus is still vere 一as is now the ca in the U. S.
A vaccine is like a fire ho (消防龙头). A vaccine that is 95 percent effective, as Moderna's and Pfizer's versions appear to be,
is a powerful fire ho. But the size of a fire is still a bigger determinant of how much destruction occurs.
At the current level of infection in the U. S. (about 160, 000 confirmed new infections per day), a vaccine that is 95 percent effective 一 distributed at the expected pace 一 would still leave a terrible toll (伤亡人数) after it was introduced. Almost 36 million
or so Americans have caught the virus, and more than 60, 0000 have died. This is far wor than the toll in a different situation where the vaccine was only 50 percent effective. However, it's worth
三鲜豆腐pausing for a moment on this comparison. If the U. S. maintained its current infection rate and Moderna and Pfizer announced that their vaccines were only 50 percent effective. a lot of people would panic.
But the reality we have is actually wor. How could this be? No vaccine can get rid of a pandemic immediately, just as no fire ho can put out a forest fire. While the vaccine is being distributed,
the virus continues to do damage.

4. When I was younger, I thought science would make good things for everybody. It was obviously uful; it was good. But then during the war I worked on the atomic bomb. This result of science was obviously very rious—it reprented the destruction of people and put our future at risk. I had to ask mylf, “Is some evil involved in science?” I thought long and hard about this question, and I will try to answer it in this talk.
The first way in which science is of value is familiar to everyone: scientific knowledge is an enabling power to do either good or bad—but it does not carry instructions on how to apply it. Such power has obvious value—even though the power may be denied by what one does with it.
Another value of science is the intellectual enjoyment it can provide us with. When we look at any question deeply enough, we feel the excitement and mystery coming into us again and again. With more knowledge comes a deeper, more wonderful mystery, inspiring one to look deeper still. Never concerned that the answer may let us down, with pleasure and confidence we turn over each new stone to find unimagined strangeness, just like opening a box of chocolate.
I would now like to turn to a third value that science has. The scientist has a lot of experience with ignorance and doubt and uncertainty, and this experience is of great importance. When a scientist doesn’t know the answer to a problem, he is ignorant. When he has an idea as to what the result is, he is uncertain. And when he is pretty sure of what the result is going to be, he is still in some doubt.
Our freedom to doubt was born out of deep and strong struggle against authority in the early days of science. In order to progress, we must not forget the importance of this struggle; we must recognize our ignorance and leave room for doubt. Permit us to question, to doubt, to not be sure.
【小题1】What is the purpo of the first paragraph?
A.To criticize a common view. B.To introduce the topic. C.To explain a viewpoint. D.To prove an argument.
【小题2】As to the value of science, the author ________ .

C.interprets it from various perspectives D.thought deeply but got no answers to it
