For many years, rearchers have analyzed Robinson Crusoe from three aspects: the religious perspective; aesthetic perspective and the perspective of Robinson as a bourgeoisie in the rising period 夜书所见叶绍翁.1马洛斯 However, if we read this novel by virtue of the post colonial theory, we will find that Robinson Crusoe also displays a colonial ideology. Robinson’s experiences are similar to early bourgeoisie’s colonization. Robinson’s develo
pment process is in fact an epitome of Western capitalism’s early practice of overas colonization. In this paper the author tries to analyze Robinson Crusoe’s image as a colonist.
The main body of this paper is a detailed analysis of Robinson Crusoe’s image as a colonist. The analysis is illustrated step by step from three aspects include the background of creating Robinson Crusoe’s image as a colonist, Robinson’s typical characteristics as a colonist and Robinson’s colonial activities. In conclusion, the author makes a brief summary on the whole thesis and some implications and limitations are also demonstrated for further study.
2. The background of creating Robinson Crusoe’s image as a colonist
Robinson Crusoe has won high prai from readers for many reasons. Among tho reasons, two reasons are evident. One is Defoe wrote the hero basing on social background at that time instead of writing by imagination. The other is the novel is accord with Daniel Defoe’s experience and viewpoints.

Great changes have taken place in 17th century and 18揭示近义词th生龙活什么 century in British. Tho changes can be en from three aspects: politics, economy and culture.
In politics, British bourgeoisie was in the rising period in the 17th century and dissatisfied with feudalism. After a ries of revolutions, advanced political system had t up in British, which lays a foundation for its colonial activity.
In economy, British started industrial revolution in 17th and 18th century. With the development of industrial revolution, British need acquire more material and ek wider market to sale products. Colonial expansion caters for the need, which we can e from Robinson’s colonial activity.
In culture, the Enlightenment occurred in Western Europe in the 18th century. The English enlighteners were bourgeois democratic thinkers. They thought the chief means for bettering the society was “enlightenment” or “education” for people. They believe their
thoughts are advanced and they have the rights to educate other race. Perhaps this is one reason for Robinson’s cultural colonization.
