1.MISSION.The Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI)is a field operating agency under the
direction and guidance of the Air Force Inspector General (SAF/IG).It performs as a federal law enforcement agency with responsibility for conducting criminal investigations,counterintelligence activities,and specialized investigative and force protection support for the Air Force.

2.1.Reports to SAF/IG.
2.2.Exercis command authority over all assigned personnel,facilities,property and funds,and is delegated the independent authority to initiate criminal investigations according to Public Law 99-145,and to conduct counterintelligence activities according to Executive Order 1233

3.RESPONSIBILITIES
3.1.Organizes,trains and equips AFOSI field units.

3.3.Conducts offensive counterintelligence operations against foreign intelligence rvices.

3.4Investigates intrusions of computer systems and supports the Air Force information warfare mission.
3.5.Supports the DoD Counterdrug Strategy by detecting,interdicting,suppressing and monitoring the flow of illegal drugs into the United States via Air Force channels.

3.7.Provides counterintelligence,force protection and antiterrorism rvices.
3.8.Provides specialized curity policy and management support for special access programs.

3.9.Provides specialized investigative support in such areas as the forensic and behavioral sciences and hypnosis.
3.10.Executes the US Air Force Technical Surveillance Countermeasures (TSCM)program.
3.11.Functions as the Air Force office of primary responsibility for Forensic Psychophysiological Detection of Deception (polygraph)examinations.
3.12.Operates the US Air Force Special Investigations Academy.
3.13.Conducts personnel curity investigations in overas areas for the Defen Investigative Service.

4.Maintains liaison and is the Air Force single point of contact with federal,state,local and foreign nation law enforcement,counterintelligence and curity agencies for matters falling within the AFOSI mission.
