hen Emily finds out that Homer didn’t want to marry her and intended to leave her, she poisoned him and hided the body in her hou, where she has been confined herlf ever since. It wasn’t until 40years later, when Emily was dead, the townspeople entered her dusty room, where they found Homer’s body on the bed. Everything came to light.
The style of language:
The plot with inverted and disturbed time order. It forces the reader to shift the attention from what happens to why and how it happens. Full of suspen and shocks, it leaves much for the readers to explore. The author us flashback and foreshadowing to strike the reader with the following feelings: grotesque, mysterious, shocking, tragic, sympathetic, etc.
The narrator is “we”, one of the townspeople. He reveals a lot about the town’s mind, has mixed feelings. Sometimes he is exactly the town’s speaker, but sometimes he is different form the rest of the town, which shows the author’s criticism to the town.
The narration is limited omniscient, which leaves inner of Emily unknown, making it a enchanting mystery for the reader to explore.
