Cour Objective
This cour will help the students explore in depth the formation of modern Chine literary culture and engage them with an interdisciplinary area newly developed by international scholars of Chine studies and other humanities disciplines.
The students will be familiar with general issues of word and image in Chine literary history and provided with Western theories of visual modernity. Through ca studies the students will grasp new ways of eing and interpreting literary and visual works in the age of mechanical reproduction.
重本抑末Expected Learning Outcomes
By the end of the cour, students will: 1) have a broad view of visual culture in global perspective; 2) deal with late Qing literary and visual issues in interdisciplinary approach; 3) know how to practice a clo reading of literary or visual texts; 4) know how to write a term paper bad on good rearch.
Evaluation Method
Attendance, discussion, and prentation: 30%; term paper: 70%
