3. EXECUTION
Conditions
3.1 DELIVERY/STORAGE AND HANDLING
Take delivery of materials and goods and store on site and protect from damage.  Store
Stria® Cladding flat on a smooth level surface, keep dry prior to fixing.  Protect surfaces,
edges and corners from damage.
Move/handle goods in accordance with manufacturer's requirements; carry panels in a
vertical position to avoid excessive bending.
Reject and replace goods that are damaged or will not provide the required finish.
3.2 PRE-INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
Check work previously carried out and confirm it is of the required standard for this part of
the work.
游东湖Moisture content of framing must not exceed the requirements specified by NZS 3602 to
minimize shrinkage and movement after panels are fixed.
3.3 PRE-CLADDING REQUIREMENTS
Check work previously carried out and confirm it is of the required standard for specified
finish.  Do not commence work until the substrate is of the standard required by James
3.4 TIMBER FRAMING REQUIREMENTS
Check timber framing stud and nog spacing is in accordance with NZS 3604 and framing
蒙古兔complies with NZS 3602.  For projects with specific engineering design check compliance
with AS/NZS 1170 and NZS 3603.
Where 600mm spacing of studs apply provide an intermediate means of support for
building underlay and insulation using either 75mm galvanid mesh or polypropylene
tape.  Not required where studs spaced at 400mm centres or where rigid air barriers are
provided in place of building underlay.
3.5 STEEL FRAMING REQUIREMENTS
Check steel framing complies with AS/NZS 3404 and NASH 3405, or to specific
engineering design requirements.
3.6 CLADDING CLEARANCES
Bottom edge clearance of cladding, ground clearances and overhang to bottom plate to
comply with the requirements of NZBC E2/AS1.
3.7 SITE REQUIREMENTS
Building site to comply with NZBC E1/AS1.
Installation

open junctions and over openings (windows, meter boards, etc).
3.14 INSTALL CLD STRUCTURAL CAVITY BATTENS
Install battens in accordance with James Hardie Stria® Cladding Technical Specification.
Fix to studs over wall underlay or James Hardie Rigid Air Barrier, run battens
continuously over studs and provide a gap at first floor joist level to allow for shrinkage
and deflection in joists.  Alternatively, batten can be scarf-jointed over the studs within the
floor height.  Join battens with ends cut at 20° to 45° to deflect moisture to the exterior.
Prime all site cut ends of battens with Dulux Acraprime 501/1 aler or Rene Quick Dry
before installation.  Seal ends using an adhesive alant in the joint.
3.15 FIXINGS BATTENS TO TIMBER
Fix battens with 65 x 2.8mm RounDrive ring shank nails at 250mm centres for timber
studs at 400 or 600mm centres maximum where wind pressures of up to 1.5 kPa apply
(50m/s VH wind speed), and fix at 200mm centres with studs spaced at 400mm centres
maximum where wind pressures of above 1.5 and up to 2.5 kPa apply (above VH 50m/s
to 64.55m/s wind speed).  Refer to SELECTIONS for centres.
3.16 FIXING BATTENS TO STEEL
For steel framing of thickness 0.55 - 0.75 BMT u 10g x 40mm lf embedding wing tek
screw with same fixing as for timber.  Ensure a minimum 15mm penetration of screw into
steel frame.  Install thermal break over steel frame before installing underlay/James
Hardie Rigid Air Barrier.
3.17 PENETRATIONS AND FLASHINGS
Confirm that exterior wall openings have been prepared ready for the installation of all
window and door frames and other penetrations through the cladding.  Required
preparatory work includes the following:
- Wall underlay appropriately incorporated with penetration and junction flashings.
- Materials lapped in a way that water tracks down to the exterior face of the wall
underlay.
- Wall underlay to openings finished and dresd off ready for the installation of window
and door frames and other penetrations
- Claddings neatly finished off to all sides of openings
- Installation of flashings (tho required to be installed prior to installation of penetrating
elements).
3.18 INSTALL STRIA CLADDING
Install cladding in accordance with James Hardie Stria® Cladding Technical Specification.
Fix panels using combination nailing and adhesive method, comprid of Paslode 30mm
304 stainless steel TrimMaster Angle Brad Nails, a minimum of three nails per stud for
each panel.  Apply a 6mm thick continuous bead of adhesive alant to the face of the
batten, panel by panel, prior to fixing Stria® Cladding.  Finish nail heads flush with panel
surface.
3.19 INSTALL JOINTING SYSTEMS
Install vertical, horizontal, internal and external corner joints in accordance with James
Hardie Stria® Cladding Technical Specification.
3.20 INSTALL FLASHINGS
Install flashings at all wall openings, penetrations, junctions, connections, window sills,
heads and jambs to NZBC E2/AS1.

fasteners to James Hardie requirements.  Fit complete with jointers and capping moulds.
Refer to Eaves and Soffit Linings Installation Manual.
3.22 INSTALL FLUSH JOINTED SOFFIT SHEETS
Cut sheets dry and ensure all edges and joints are fully supported.  Fit expansion joints to
limit finished areas to 7.2 metres x 4.8 metres for large soffits or 7.2 metres for narrow
soffits.  Flush joints with James Hardie Ba Coat, paper reinforcing tape and James
Hardie Top Coat to flush width of 180mm.  Refer to Eaves and Soffit Linings Installation
Manual.
Completion
