Though devoid of ups and downs of plots, fascinating suspen, Little Women attracts millions of readers with its simple, family-bad, and mi-biography style. It has been read as a romance or as a quest or both, and it has been read as a family drama that validates over wealth. The novel follows the lives of four sisters-Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy, all of who are the real artists of their lives and follows the theme of pure love between parents and children, siblings, friends, husband and wife. This kind of warmth the love brings to me is like the bright and beautiful sunshine in the cold winter day.

Louisa May Alcott, the author, created this novel bad on her own experience with her sisters, so some of the stories happened to March family came from the author’s real life. And the cond sister was the vivid portrayal of Louisa herlf, who was boyish, brave, stubborn and wild. I assume that the great success of this novel attributes to the authenticity of stories, and the true , good and beautiful characters of little women.
The four March sisters live happily and harmoniously together with some similarities and their own special personalities.
Meg is the oldest sister of the March family. She is mature and well-mannered as the oldest sister is suppod to be. Thus when mom is abnt, she is responsible for the whole family--to keep her three younger sisters from squabbling over nonn and to lecture them like her mother does if necessary. Meg’s affection of vanity fair and luxurious life vanishes after she attends a social ball when she is fooled and mocked by some “elegant” ladies just becau of her poor dress. Jo loves her family no less than anyone, maybe even more. When the news came that their father was riously injured in the war, she cut and sold her beautiful, long and thick hair for 25 dollars without any hesitation as a little contribution she can make to her family. Though Jo is boyish and restless, she is quite calm and deep when it comes to her favourite reading and writing. She loves literature and is good at composing plays for her sisters to perform and write short stories to publish. When she works for Aunt March, an old but rich lady who has a grand hou with plenty of books, her favourite is to find different kinds of books cretly as soon as Aunt March falls asleep at noon. Beth, the third sister, is a shy, introvert and gentle girl with a gift for music. Beth has no desire to leave her hou and family as her sisters grow up and begin to leave home for their lives. Among three other sisters, she is especially clo to Jo. When Beth developed scarlet fever after visiting the poor Hummels, Jo was so concerned that she did the most of the nursing and rarely left her side. Though Beth recovered from scrupulous care of the whole family, her health is weakened permanently. As she grows up, Beth comes to realize that the happy time with her family is coming to an end, which the family hates to admit and accept. Still, they makes her a special room, filled with all the things she loves most--her kittens, piano, father’s book, Amy’s sketches and her beloved dolls. Even when she is ill, she does not want to be idle, she knits and ws things for the children that pass under her window on the way to and from their school. But eventually, even the wi
ng needle grows too heavy for her. The main tragedy in Little Women is the death of beloved Beth, which has great impact on her sisters, especially Jo, who resolves to live her life with more consideration and care for others.

In the novel, she is described as a regular snow-maiden with curly golden hair and blue eyes, pale and slender and always carrying herlf like a very proper young lady. Amy is the most spoiled and petted girl becau she is the youngest. She is nt to stay with Aunt March when Beth is ill with scarlet fever, during which Aunt March grows fond of her and offers the chance to take her with her to Europe. And there Amy meets Laurie and later marries him.
Different personalities as the four sisters have, they share the similarity as being good little women. They have a wonderful mother, live in a harmonious family, love and help each other, and are independent and free-minded. Harmony and happiness are the main melody of the family movement. There are misunderstandings, quarrels existing in their daily life, which instead of ruin their relationship, bring them clor.
