The Adventures of Tom Sawyer of Mark Twain, a famous American novelist, may be called the leader among tho works concerning the description of juvenile adventures. Although Tom Sawyer has been thought to be a male young hero for a long time, it doesn’t mean that this book is only suitable for younger boys. On the contrary, it suits people of different age and different gender to taste, especially tho juvenile readers. Well, what kind of particular charm does this book have? Why it goes along with the psychology of children so much and wins the admiration of young readers? This thesis mainly explores the reasons of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’s being a masterpiece among children books and its handing down from one generation to another.

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, his best-known work, is one of the most splendid recreations of childhood in all literature. It tells a story of a boy’s adventure-filled curiosity, fantasy world and his tendency to heroism and idealism. Meanwhile, it is more than a boy’s book, and the real key to its success can be sought in its popularity among young readers. Through his profound understanding of an ordinary boy and the normal history of boyhood, Mark Twain express his unconventional point of view on the presumed bad boy who finally becomes a hero.
