摘要：PURPOSE:To obtain a surface to be subjected for obrvation by a transmission electronic microscope by such an arrangement wherein a cover which is hard to be dissolved and permeated for grinding conditions is caud to tightly contact with a desired surface of thin plate when the thin plate is to be ground by electrolytic grinding or chemical grinding in which the plate is to be immerd in a grinding liquid, and then the plate is ground. CONSTITUTION:A cover 7 is caud to cloly contact with the object surface 5 of a test specimen 1 which is an anode, and the test specimen is immerd in an electrolytic grinding liquid 3, and a cathode 2 is installed at the side opposite to the object surface 3 and electrolytic grinding is performed. As a cover, e.g., a piece of Scotch tape or insulation vinyl tape may be ud. By electrolytic grinding, the central portion of the test specimen 1 gradually becomes thinner and a hole is eventually made, but the object surface 5 is not ground as it is prevented from contacting with the electrolytic grinding liquid. Upon completion of electrolytic grinding, the cover 7 is peeled off or dissolved by a solvent, and by this procedure, a test specimen having a portion which corresponds to the object surface and is not ground and still has a desired thickness can be made.
