The HC120-01 is ideal for battery-powered, portable照影
instruments where low light level detection is critical. It can
utilize any of our new R6350 ries of ½” side-on
photomultiplier tubes for a wide choice of spectral respon, nsitivity and signal-to-noi character
istics. The ur needs only to supply low voltage to operate the detector asmbly. The high voltage needed to power the photomultiplier is generated with a 10-stage Cockcroft-Walton voltage multiplier with one stage per dynode. This unique design allows operation of the PMT to higher light levels with improved linearity and permits a remarkable reduction in power consumption, which even enables battery-powered applications.
The design is implemented with surface mount components resulting in a very compact unit. The aluminum enclosure shields against electrical noi and is potted to protect the tube and circuitry against shock and moisture. This new HC120 ries of modules provides designers with new solutions in the application of PMT’s.  Plea refer to our Hamamatsu Photomultiplier Tube catalog, page 24, for the complete specifications for our R6350 ries of ½” side-on photomultiplier tubes.

BATTERY OPERATION
The HC123-01 is compact, high voltage power module that includes the necessary voltage divider and mating socket for all standard 1 1/8th inch side window photomultiplier tubes. The Cockcroft-Walton voltage multiplier is ud to generate the high voltage as well as to perform the voltage division normally accomplished with a resistive divider.  The design is implemented with surface mount components and is potted to guard against moisture and contamination. Several performance advantages are obtained: lower operating current, improved linearity at higher output signal levels, and smaller size.

The high voltage is regulated and can be controlled by either resistance or voltage programming. A lf-oscillating circuit is ud to convert DC power to a 185 kHz sine wave of 100 volts peak-to-peak, and the HC123-01 provides a feedback regulating circuit to better control the output voltage.

power supply occurs.  Depending upon the required accuracy, u one of the following techniques: A)
  Measure the voltage at the
programming input and multiply by 140 for an accuracy of 25 volts typical at the photocathode.  B) For measurement accuracy within a few volts, measure D9 voltage and multiply by 10.  Inter-stage voltages can be checked by testing D9 minus D8, D8 minus D7, etc.  C) U a high voltage probe having an input resistance of at least 1000 megohms.
