From 1987 until 2006, Alan Greenspan was the chairman of the United States Federal Rerve Board, which overes the Federal Rerve Bank, a private corporation chartered in 1913 by Congress

Greenspan is not, however, universally respected. Bill Gross, the founder of Pacific Investment Management Company (PIMCO) who overes some $350 billion in fixed income curities, has compared Greenspan to Barney Fife, the bumbling装模作样的 deputy代理人 from Andy of Mayberry. Gross characterizes Greenspan as a man "afraid of his own shadow".
Greenspan's first wife, Joan Mitchell, introduced Greenspan to Objectivist author Ayn Rand, who became his friend and mentor.
