Lines Written in Early Spring
By William Wordsworth
I heard a thousand blended (和谐的)notes,
While in a grove(小树林) I sat reclined(斜倚),
horasIn that sweet mood when pleasant thoughts
Bring sad thoughts to the mind.
To her fair works did Nature link
The human soul that through me ran;
And much it grieved my heart to think
What man has made of man.
Through primro tufts(报春花丛), in that green bower(闺房),
The periwinkle(蔓长春花) trailed its
wreaths(花环);
And ’tis my faith that every flower
Enjoys the air it breathes.
The birds around me hopped六级英语作文范文(蹦跳) and played,
Their thoughts I cannot measure:—

It emed a thrill of pleasure.
The budding twigs(嫩树枝)雅思学校首选北京新航道 spread out their fan,
To catch the breezy air;
And I must think, do all I can,
That there was pleasure there.
If this belief from heaven be nt,
If such be Nature’s holy plan,
Have I not reason to lament
What man has made of man?

Comments1:
In "Lines Written in Early Spring", Wordsworth achieves the goal he ts for himlf in his "Preface to the Lyrical Ballads" - "to choo situations from common life, and to relate or in a lection of language really ud by men, and at the same time to throw over them a certain colouring of imagination".
Wordsworth describes Nature as being a compor, creating a symphony of "blended notes". The scene appears to be entirely sweet and pleasant, and yet gives way to "sad thoughts" in the speaker's mind. The speaker obrves that all of Nature's creations appe
ar to be enjoying themlves - the flowers "enjoy" the air they breathe, the birds take pleasure in their movements, as do the "budding twigs". The speaker recognizes that man is also one of Nature's creations - "To her fair works did Nature link/The human soul that through me ran" (lines 5-6). However, man is also a creator, and can create himlf ("What man has made of man" - line 8). Man's "lf creation" goes against Nature's "plan" that all natural things should enjoy themlves, as man does not necessarily take pleasure in every moment of life. This thought caus the speaker himlf to "grieve" - thus creating a lf-fulfilling prophecy.
